Yeah we should all chip in and get Judge Benitez a complimentary Ford Ranger. He's gonna need it to haul those Ranger sized balls around in.

I'm in need of reasonable entry-level cases for my M&P 15 and my wife's M&P 15-22.
I don't know where to start. Do I need hard shell, soft...?
No intention of having to ship them anywhere so they don't need to be airline approved or anything. I just need something to put them in if we go to the range or out in the desert to shoot.
If I understand correctly, I probably don't need anything longer than 36", do I? And I do have small red-dot optics on them both.

Thanks for any guidance you can give.
Chris, Not sure if you picked up a case yet but this one is on sale and has free shipping at checkout. I have one similar to this but mine is a Bulldog case but it looks exactly like this one. I've had it for about 15 years now and use it for my S&W 15-22 and it's held up great.

I bought two of these just yesterday. On the way from Amazon, of course.

Looks like we're all about to become felons. So the ATF approved pistol braces and now they're reversing this when there are millions out there? Now I'm not so sad that mine were all lost in that boating accident last year. ?

https://www.ammoland.com/2021/06/atf-released-new-proposed-pistol-brace-rules/#axzz6xCSsNRhG

ATF Released New Proposed Pistol Brace Rules

The document reads:
“Given the public interest surrounding these issues, ATF is proposing to amend the definition of ‘rifle’ in 27 CFR 478.11 and 479.11, respectively, by adding a sentence at the end of each definition. The new sentence would clarify that the term ‘rifle’ includes any weapon with a rifled barrel and equipped with an attached ‘stabilizing brace’ that has objective design features and characteristics that indicate that the firearm is designed to be fired from the shoulder, as indicated on ATF Worksheet 4999.”
  • 1 point: Minor Indicator (the weapon could be fired from the shoulder)
  • 2 points: Moderate Indicator (the weapon may be designed and intended to be fired from the shoulder)
  • 3 points: Strong Indicator (the weapon is likely designed and intended to be fired from the shoulder)
  • 4 points: Decisive Indicator (the weapon is designed and intended to be fired from the shoulder
The ATF would consider any gun with a score of four or more points an SBR. Firearms over 13 ½ inches would automatically be an SBR. If a pistol has a standard buffer tube, then the firearm would be assigned two points. The ATF would consider any gun that is over 120 ounces unloaded an SBR.

More confusingly, if a firearm has flip-up sights, then the ATF would give that gun one point towards becoming an SBR. The ATF would assign a gun with a red dot two points. The ATF doesn’t see why a shooter would use a red dot pistol on a pistol.

The ATF would assign any gun with a hand stop two points. That would put any firearm with a hand stop halfway to becoming an SBR. The ATF would consider any gun with a secondary grip as an SBR.

The ATF encourages all companies to resubmit their sample firearms to the ATF’s Tech Branch to be reexamined. It would cost the companies thousands of dollars for almost no chance of getting another determination letter stating that they can sell their gun as a pistol.

Even if a manufacturer’s product scores under four points, the ATF could determine that the company is trying to circumvent the NFA. The ATF could choose to charge the company with a crime. This power could discourage companies from selling braced pistols even if the ATF rules it is a pistol.

The ATF firearms like the Mossberg Shockwave and the TAC-14 will be considered Short-Barreled Shotguns (SBS). There is no way to get any “shotgun-based” guns that could make it through the new regulations.

I really do not see anyone doing this just like they've tried with the bump stocks. IIRC no one turned theirs in. LMAO no cost to gun owners...Um WE paid for them!

The first choice is turning the guns into the ATF. The ATF says this choice would be at “no-cost” to gun owners. This move is gun confiscation. The second choice would be to install a barrel that more than 16 inches long. The third choice is to pay a $200 tax stamp and register it as an SBR. The final option would be to modify the brace and not sell it to anyone in the future.

As soon as I read this - "The ATF doesn’t see why a shooter would use a red dot pistol on a pistol." my first thought (ok, maybe my second thought after "ARE U F**** ME?!") is how the hell can they state that when most every major gun manufacturer is producing PISTOLS with models specifically set up for red dots? So, the Glock 41 MOS I want to buy is therefore NOT a pistol, it's now an SBR, but the EXACT same gun in non-MOS config is ok? Good to know - thanks ATF! Morons.

Edit: Should have said "ARE YOU F**** KIDDING ME?!" That's what I get for typing when I'm mad

Some great links and discussion here. It might have been discussed but it’s a huge thread.
I’m thinking about purchasing a couple .40S&W guns in the next year. Never even shot that caliber before. I’ve heard from many people that it was much easier to find during the pandemic. Not sure how true as I just never even looked. But if that’s true - that’s a huge selling point for me. Plus a lot of law enforcement agencies still use that caliber.

Anyone here prefer it over 9mm?
Most law enforcement are going or have gone to 9mm. The demand is way down for 40 caliber. I shot 40s for 20 years and in the last 5 years went to 9mm, partly because of the advancement of 9 mm ammo, as well as I have learned, it is easier to shoot...period (less recoil, faster back on target time, more round capacity at times). I currently carry a Glock 45, best Glock ever made in my opinion, with a 19 being close 2nd.

Great choice! I have the P365 XL and like it much more than the P365. The added grip length is perfect now and you don't need the mag extension which sometimes adds way to much and makes it harder to conceal.

There are tons of good comparison videos on YouTube, but I'm sure you know the best way to decide which is best for you is shoot them ...if we can only find ammo at decent prices!

The 365 is just too small for me. I really like the flat trigger and accuracy on the XL as well.

You might want to check out the XL Application Rail (if you want to mount a light) and the PRO Ledge Base Pad for the mags from Tactical Development:

I'm picking up a 45 MOS Deltapoint Pro combo on Sunday. (mine will just have standard sights)

Glock-MOS-2.jpg

Also, I don't know how the stars aligned, but my department is finally getting rid of our Gen 4 22's and 27's in 3 months. An Atlanta area store rep came around and they are paying us $350 for every 22 and 27 we trade in. This is an absurdly great deal. We are going to end up paying next to nothing out of pocket to re-outfit everyone from road patrol and CID with a 45 with Ameriglo Bold sights (primary) and 43x with standard night sights (backup).

It goes without saying, but the Gen 4's are absolute dog-shit. Gen 5's go back to Gen 3 era mechanics.

They are also going to trade out all our .40 ammo for 9mm box for box.

We started transitioning our "fleet" from the G22 to G17 about halfway through Gen 4. We still have a few holdouts that don't want to give up there old .40s and a few people who just haven't had the opportunity to get traded out yet. Unfortunately, because the number of people we have we couldn't swap everyone over at once. I was very fortunate to go from G35 to G34MOS pretty early in Gen 4.

I really like the G45! It's a nice handling firearm! I wouldn't mind getting one one day.
