You have a '21, you still have a warranty, go see the dealership.

I am on Saturday. I just wanted to be able to go in there and give them ideas of what it may be. I don't want to be without a vehicle for 2 weeks.

My "grinding" noise from under the truck turned out to be the drive shaft center bearing dying.

i think the sound for mine would be called a screeching scratch / dragging noise. I never thought or heard / felt it around the gas pedal. the center support bearings Ford used on the 5g ranger are from a long running quality company - Dana , Spicer. It seems some where in the supply of the parts some not so great bearings got in the mix. Ford has a TSB about it someplace. They are to be replaced under warranty if it goes to a dealer with the right symptoms. Mine is on its third one now. first was the factory one. it was replaced at the ford dealer under warranty. Apparently the one put on during the warranty service was also not up to snuff. The truck is currently in the shop having other things adjusted and one of the things to be done is replacing the center support bearing again making it the third. to be fully honest, i would not let the bearing thing worry you. lots of manufacturers use parts from Dana or its other brands / product lines. chances are other manufactures may have gotten some less than perfect bearings as well. so another brand truck likely would not avoid the issue for the parts. the good news is the bearings are cheap like less than 50 dollars, are sold at most basic auto part stores, and ford is replacing them free under warranty as they are already aware. no idea how many good or bad bearings were put out in the time frame the 5g was built but I would guess that whatever the problems was with the part, has been fixed by Spicer by now so the replacement you got will last for many miles. also keep in mind that generally people do not come to groups like auto forums to talk about how awesome the car is. They often come with questions or concerns or problems. So the fraction of 5g ranger owners that is represented on this forum may have heard of the bearings going out early. An even smaller group of those members actually had the issue. So a "common" issue on the 5g forum is really like saying common to less than 10 percent of all the 5g rangers on the planet. if one reads too many threads on any auto forum they will leave with the feeling that whatever car or truck the forum is about is junk lol.

hmm I could not hear it well but it is possible it is the center support bearing for the driveshaft. typically driving next to a wall or in a parking garage etc.
