Rotated the tires today on my blue baby. While doing so started comparing the tire tread to the tread on the never used spare. Not seeing what I expected.

Bit of back ground. 2023 Tremor. 36K miles. Two years old this past February, hit 36K in March. My truck has had an easy life. I rarely dog it. Not a lot of hauling. No towing. Huge chunk of the 36K is highway miles. Historically regardless of vehicle I get great mileage out of a set of tires. I'd been figuring to get 80K plus out of the original equipment Generals. Meaning I would replace them at 80K, with a safe amount of tread remaining. I've been happy with the Grabbers and was thinking I'd replace them with the same tires when the time comes. As of today, not so sure. Using my very unscientific tread measurements, I now estimate that the tires will be shot at about 70K miles. Which means I'll be buying tires at about 60-62K as I never run tires too low tread wise. I'm a bit stunned actually.

For years I had F150's as company trucks. I don't remember ever having to replace tires at less than about 75-80K miles. Again, that's when I replaced them. Not when they were toast. Back when I had my '06 Nissan Frontier NISMO POS the original BFG somethings were complete shit. Only got about 28K out of them... and ran them down to nothing I was so pissed about it. Then I put on KO2's and ran those for @80K. Then moved to Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs and put close to 60K on them before trading in the truck. And those tires had plenty of life left. That truck racked up lots of highway miles as well. Many years ago I put over 110K miles on a set of Michelins on a company car. Our company garage made me get new tires one day during an oil change as those were dry rotting at that point. Again, I have a history of getting high mileage out of my vehicle's tires. But these Generals didn't get the memo.

I hope my guessimated measurements prove incorrect. But I'd bet a beer I'm pretty close. Guess I'll be getting a set of KO3's sooner than I'd planned. And that extra Tremor wheel for the spare. And I may well do no better with the KO3's. Could be a Ranger thing. I don't know. But I am most definitely surprised.

I went off the tires factory warranty which I think is 60k so I planned on getting new wheels and tires at around 60-65k I suppose 75-80k is possible but that seems like a long time to me.. I’m at 50k right now and will probably hit 60k by the end of the summer..I also have a 23 tremor.. I don’t really run the truck hard but I do drive a lot.. thinking about it warrant doesn’t mean the end of the product life…
Seems like you’ll still have approximately two more years with the current tires though.. new tires every 4 years doesn’t seem all that bad in my opinion… but that’s just my opinion….
I have a history of destroying tires when I was younger (I’ve calmed my driving down a lot since having kids.) so tires lasting 60ish thousand miles was surprising to me in the opposite sense ?.

last thought… getting a set of KO3’s sooner than later actually sounds like a nice thing….unless you’re a bank account ?

Won’t argue that. Should have proofed it before posted. Was in a hurry.

ahh, I am waay too much of a low mile driver, I am barely at 17K miles on my 22. Plan is to replace the Grabbers by the time I pay off the truck in a few years. I keep bouncing between which to go for.

If not mistaken I believe the General Grabber ATx is rated for 50,000 miles like most All Terrain Tires. For 70,000-80,000 miles I would look at a HWY Type like the Firestone Destination LE3 or Michelin LTX M&S(I'm not sure what version they are on right now). Keep in mind that I had a set of Hankook Dynpro ATM's on my 2016 Frontier and managed to get a little over 50,000 miles out of them. I had a set of Firestone Destination XT's on my 2019 Chevy Express and only got about 40,000 out of them, but then again that vehicle was loaded down to GVWR. Thanks to the Traction Law that applies here in Colorado, I can see myself replacing my current set of tires around 35,000-40,000 simply for the fact Tread Depth needs to be at or above 6/32 in Winter Conditions in certain areas(and it doesn't take much to get to those areas)

I have 47k on my 21 Tremor and the Grabber ATx tires are wearing well. I will easily get the 60k warranted mileage. Only down side is they are starting to get noisy, they were very quiet when new.

When the time comes to replace them I will go with something more road oriented like the Grabber APT, BFG Trail Terrain or Continental Terrain Contact AT

I just replaced my Grabbers a couple of weeks ago with another set of same. They had 35,000 on them and for sure they had plenty of life left. I put them online for free and the post lasted about 15 seconds before I was blasted with takers. Ended up giving them to a guy who had a different tire on each wheel of his F-150. I am on several different job sites (dirt/gravel) weekly and have had no issues whatsoever. Not sure about getting 80,000 out of these, that seems a bit excessive. I have had 6-7 oil changes and the same amount of tire rotations done at my original dealership.

The grabbers are wearing fine for me. I will almost certainly exceed rhe 50,000 mile rating of the tire. My only complaint is road noise. I've had other all terrain tires over the years and these grabbers just seem really loud. With age I'm becoming less tolerant of loud noise so that might be something as well.

2021 Tremor with 70k. Just replaced Grabbers with Grabbers. Old tires still had good tread on them. Was planning on replacing brakes at same time but original brakes still have plenty of life left.

BFG Trail Terrain
That’s it! Could not remember the name. Those were OE on my Fronter NISMO. I failed to even get 30K out of them granted they could / probably have updated the rubber compound over the years. But my friendly advice is to think twice before purchasing.

Good points all. But me being me it’ll most likely be KO3’s. We could have a good discussion about why I don’t need them. But then I’ll head to the store to buy them anyway. :like: Just the way I roll.

I think tire life all depends on where you live. I live in Pa and would be shocked if I Get 30 to 35k on tires because the roads are terrible. I have a 22 Tremor lariat I just got with 15k miles. I like the Grabber tirrs and I have been running General tires on all of my cars for a while. However I think want to run a non-a/t tire in the summer to reduce road noise. This is my first truck and the road noise from the tires is taking some time to get use to. The Grabber are fantastic in snow!
