I am considering ordering a 2022 Ranger Lariat 4x4. I want to get locking differential, but not sure if I really want the FX4 package. Anyone on here have this package that can give some insight as to how it drives. I am wondering if the off road shocks and suspension settings will make a rough ride on the road. Mainly only getting 4x4 for future resale and occasional snow duty. Otherwise I would just get the 2 WD and save $4k.

the fx4 package comes with more off road goodies like some skid protection and computer wizardry for different types of terrain and trails. the fx4 shocks have been almost a joke. unless the truck has a good amount of weight in it or is towing it is bouncy and in my view just overly too soft. by soft and bouncy think like 70s-early 90s Buick Lincoln Cadillac boat ish ride. some folks are ok with it and happy. many are changing the fx4 shocks to upgraded after market ones and are very happy after doing it. I think the package is well worth the money and is pretty darn capable. it will also have a slightly higher resale than the lower package of just 4x4. However, that extra tid bit on resale is not going to make up for thousands spent on it in the purchase price. if you use 4wd or have a want or need get the fx4. if you really dont need 4wd at all you may as well save the money upfront and get a 2wd. Prices are crazy right now with many dealers asking over msrp.

Thanks for response. I have checked with 2 local dealers. One wants non refundable $1k deposit on 2WD trucks and nothing for 4x4 and will sell at MSRP plus any incentives. The other will order anything I want with $500 fully refundable deposit also at MSRP plus incentives. So at least they are not going to tack on ADM. I really wanted to lower the truck, so I may reconsider 2WD again and save some $.

Resale is a dumb reason to spend extra for something you don't need. Buy what you need or want now.

Get the locker with 2WD or 4WD but it sounds like you don't do much off-roading so the Trail Control won't bother you much thus FX4 is not needed.

Sometimes the search isn't so good.

Try looking up something to do with a damper.
That's a silly excuse. Forum search functions have sucked for decades

And the thread I linked to is only halfway down the second page of the General forum.

Sounds like an XLT 4x4 sport or FX with a tow package should keep the price at a reasonable amount and still give you some nice features. I really think these rigs are going to hold their value more than they did in the past.
