Just went through this with my 4x4 and had trouble finding good information on how to do it. The little air dams are optional, but I think it looks a lot better than the skid plate alone and directs cool air over the engine instead of creating turbulence around the tires.
Parts to keep when removing the factory full-size air dam:
Ford's schematics did more to confuse than help, but I've included them.
Parts to keep when removing the factory full-size air dam:
- 4x Bolt, part number W714786.
- 4x Bolt W505443-S439 (if yours doesn't have the bolts in the 4 skid plate mounting holes, you'll need to buy them)
- 1x Skid Plate KB3Z-5D032-B
- 1x Stone Deflector KB3Z-17778-A (this is what Ford calls the smaller air dams)
- 1x Stone Deflector KB3Z-17779-A
- 1x Mounting Bracket KB3Z-17C886-A
- 1x Mounting Bracket KB3Z-17C887-A
- 6x Screw W505142-5442 (these go thru the bracket into the truck frame, and will feel like they won't thread in. Just get them started by hand and drive them in with a screwdriver)
- 2x Fog Lamp U-Nut W705958-S439
- 2x Mount Bracket Bolt W717403-S442
- Metric socket set including 7-15 mm.
