How much of an improvement is the silver fx4 plate over the black stock plate on the regular 4x4? Considering adding, but don’t want to lose mpgs from the air dam if it isn’t a good bit more protective.

the fx4 skid plate does cover a bit more and i doubt it would hurt mpg much if even noticeable. I like how the fx4 / tremor plate is wide, i think it will keep some mud from caking in the alternator etc.

What primarily hurts mpg is leveling, removing all/any air dams and adding bigger tires...

Yeah and removing the air dams is required to fit the bigger plate so just contemplating if that plate is thicker or more protective enough to justify.

that should give an idea of coverage. i would not call it thick but its satisfactory for most average users. i have a ding or three in mine from a nose bounce i wasnt expecting but no damage any place so the plate did its job just fine.

With lift and bigger tires I lost about 1 MPG at best(fixed with tune). After AirDam removal and FX4 skid plate install I lost 1 MPG easy. That said I felt the FX4 skid plate to be more robust.

Thank you, i will probably just go for it. Looks and more protective should be worth it.

I went from an XLT air dam and small plate to the FX4 full plate. I did not see any difference in mileage from doing it. Mine is still stock height too. Eventually will be going to FP Fox shocks but for now looks and drives fine.
