Here is one item to mull over. If we, the taxpayers, are supporting the USPS, the why the hell is the web address www.usps.COM?

If I could get rid of my mailbox I would. All I get every week is spam mailers and local grocery store adds. I don't even get my mail but maybe once a month. My USPS person is a super nice older gentleman but his job is to deliver me spam paper mail that immediately goes in the trash.

Maybe someone will come up with a hybrid and or electric vehicle with a big solar panel on those flat roofs to add some charge.
I always said delivering mail is probably THE JOB where electric vehicles make the most sense. You rarely leave the city you deliver in, it's low speed driving and it's almost all stop an go. 50% of the fuel I used was probably idled away. It would probably be a savings in the long run but the initial investment prevents it.

Our dairy has looked into moving our delivery fleet to electric. We deliver overnight so the quietness would be an added benefit.

They were looking at the Workhorse C- series. Over the last year they've added 7 or 8 new gas powered trucks instead.

Initial cost, complexity of purchasing, charging upgrades to the lot, were all factors.

But the biggest factors are range and environment. They'd cover 75% of the routes on 3 out of 5 delivery nights. And a third of those would have the driver barely making it back to the plant with juice. Environment comes into play in the summer. Our loads are iced all night long. The amount of water coming out of our trucks all night makes it look like a rolling hottub party.

From what I've seen the USPS would be an excellent place for electric delivery vehicles though.
