Right, that's what dealership lobbying has given us--no options. Forgive me if I'm not as excited about that as you are; no amount of glee that I've saved money over some imaginary price is going to make up for the time wasted in having to interact with a layer of overhead which adds no value.

You're forgiven for that!... And for thinking the price would come down if you bypassed the dealer.

Besides,
Time negotiating at the dealer is no more wasted than time conversing with friends like me here at 5G!

I'm sure there's some protection in the fine print in case you get a lemon. Plus there's your states lemon law to. I'd also hope there's an out if someone's having financial difficulties but who knows at this point.

The idea is to prevent scalping (like with sports tickets.)
They simply want to sell to real buyers, not opportunists.

I had to be sure of my choice before spending $25000 on my Ranger...
Dang sure wouldn't buy a Lightning without a little reckoning!

Besides the contract is with Ford, so you could prolly sell it back to them and get full value.

Most likely because the Jeep is not a new vehicle and Ford had to get a whole new production line built and set up suppliers around the world for thousands of parts needed to build the Bronco .

I like to see, touch, and drive a car before buying. I also want a service and parts department that I know and who knows me for warranty work and other repairs.

If you don’t need or want a dealer, then that’s fine. I’m curious though, do you feel dealer’s should be dispensed with for farm equipment, lawn equipment, boats and RVs to name just a few?

I realize that but after waiting for 25 years for the Bronco's return there were so many waiting to get one. To have over 100K reservations in the first couple days tells it all so whether or not "it's their bread and butter" they still screwed everyone by changing to an allocation and allowing big dealers to mark them up. By doing this with the Lightning Ford is really showing they could care less about its customers and are only worried about profits. Otherwise they wouldn't have changed the rules with the Bronco and every reservation holder would've had theirs by the end of '22 baring major parts constraints. Now some like myself have to wait 4 years.

I think Ford got caught off guard with covid and supply chain issues with the Bronco. Perhaps they were battling on all fronts and didn't have a game plan to deal with all of it.
At least now they know their supply chain weak points and can focus on dealers s rewind over customers.

Having said that, it still feels like they are leaving Bronco buyers out in the cold.

Why should I care if someone wants one? If you want the show, that's fine ( but you should expect to pay for the show). If I don't want the show, why should I pay for it? (Except that car dealers, who tend to be major political donors, have managed to make it almost impossible to get a car without paying a dealer.)

I also like to see and drive a vehicle before buying but I've also ordered several without. I know most don't do this but I've bought the same F150 for years and unless it were a major generation change they were all basically the same. So in that instance I'd have no problem ordering without having to deal with a dealership. It would be nice if you could have that option to be able to do both, even if it were just in the larger cities to start.

Now this whole buying a used car off of Vroom or Carvana without ever seeing or driving it is something I could never do. Even though they give you 30 days (or whatever it is) that platform is something I just couldn't do but it obviously works for many today.

Mine has treated me well since 1986, they let me take a vehicle for a day or weekend to try it out, they have sold me vehicles at fair price, they have a good service department that has taken care of me.

try to. When I bought a 2002 jeep liberty new. I was young and thoguth I had all my bases covered. I had payment terms etc everything the way I wanted it. a month later I realized they setup me up at 8.5% interest rate. I had awesome credit. it should have been under 5%. that was the largest dealership in the region.

In 2007 I ordered a nissian sentra from a different dealership, I signed the papers and when I got home I started looking through them in detail. It was then I noticed teh payment was the same but I was being charged 4% interest not the advertised rate of 0.9%. I had a conniption fit and drove the car back the next day until they fixed the paperwork.

in 2016 that sentra was dying. so In a different state I looked around wanted a taco, but I realized they were charging more for Taco's at that time. so I ended up with a Jeep Renegade. talking with that salesman, we put together a couple of different deals, found one that actually saved me a couple of grand. and put it together.

in 2021 I did something similar for my Ranger.

So 50% of the dealerships have thus far screwed me or attempted to.

Yes you can find a good salesperson / dealership. they tend to shift around.

There's going to be zero gotches when it comes to Ford versus dealers, do you want to talk about the amount of bank fraud the dealer's perpetrate to get people financed?

Could you elaborate on your first paragraph? I have no idea what you are trying to say. I prefer a dealer and I'm not lobbying to get rid of them. What is the straw man and red herring in my response to Mike?

As far as Telsa service centers and show rooms, the nearest one near me is 90 miles away. No thanks.
