Gas taxes in Canada are almost 40% of the cost.
I know the gas companies make a lot of money, when you compare to crude oil prices, but the governments are the crime specialists here.

Remember the oil companies find the oil, get it out of the ground, get it to the refinery, refine it, deliver it to market an make less a gallon the the gov makes for allowing it to be sold.

Our small, 7 employee company found that out with Quick Books. Used to be $400, pay once. Now it's 'subscription based' for $1200 per year.

On a kinda related note: With all the editing of books an movies to please the cancel culture, if you really like a book or movie an want to make sure it's available as created buy hard copies. I have heard when they change them they can also change the cloud versions you see/read/hear or when your device updates it can change it.
