Hi folks,

Has anyone had the tune installed, but had larger than recommended tire size? I'm running 285/70/17 vs the recommended 265/70/17. Not sure if it would be an issue, but before I inquire at my local dealer, thought I'd check. Would like to have the warranty, otherwise I'll be looking at 3rd party tuners.

Thanks!

It's been answered before, yes you can run larger than what the tuner specifies and it will correct... It's input by revs per mile which tire manufactures list. I run a 295/70r17 and it corrects for them 33.6" and even bigger upon my testing.

I should have been more specific...will Ford still honour the warranty when the tire size is larger than listed in the tune info. I realize it's possible and that it will work, just don't want to lose the warranty due to the unspecified tire size.

Changing your tires isn't going to void your warranty.

No, it violates the warranty agreement on the tune.

But your dealer will probably tell you "Sure, no issues." So here is what you need to do:
Print off the warranty and take it with you.
Have them back up what they are saying by having the Service Manager write:
"Use of 285/70/17 tires approved by:" Then have them sign and date it.

If you go here... https://performanceparts.ford.com/part/M-9603-REB and scroll down to the bottom and click on Warranty "Available" and then " Select Ford Performance Parts Limited Warranty " you'll get what I pasted below.

See page 7, item "e".

It says nothing about use of larger tires, only wheel size. If you're that hell bent on a warranty don't mod it. My dealer is 100% okay with it, they even aligned it and mounted and balanced the wheels and tires with 0 issues.

Only thing I'm hell bent on is answering @Peyrhonik question correctly, based on the actual warranty.

Not what Otis told Barney down at Goober's service station.

I am only interested in the Ford tune because of the warranty. If my local dealer won't do it with the warranty, then I'll look into 3rd party options since I'll be without warranty anyway, and I won't be forking over the extra $ to the dealership. I'm glad you were able to get yours done, hopefully my experience will be similar. By the letter of the law though, so to speak, it may not be.

Appreciate the help. Will definitely have a copy of the warranty info if I decide to go to the dealership ;)

Just for clarity and to summarize what I'm afraid of.

Tune info:
  • Tire size configurable up to a maximum diameter equivalent to a 265/70/17 tire as recommended with the M-18000-R Ranger Off-Road Suspension Leveling Kit
combined with;

TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THIS WARRANTY AND ITS REMEDIES ARE EXCLUSIVE AND IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, REMEDIES AND CONDITIONS, WHETHER ORAL OR WRITTEN, STATUTORY, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. AS PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, FORD SPECIFICALLY DISCLAIMS ALL EXPRESS, STATUTORY OR IMPLIED WARRANTIES, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, THE WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND WARRANTIES AGAINST HIDDEN OR LATENT DEFECTS. IF FORD CANNOT LAWFULLY DISCLAIM ANY STATUTORY OR IMPLIED WARRANTIES THEN TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ALL SUCH WARRANTIES SHALL BE LIMITED IN DURATION TO THE WARRANTY PERIOD AND THE WARRANTY COVERAGE DESCRIBED HEREIN. THIS WARRANTY COVERS ONLY DEFECTS IN OUR MATERIALS OR WORKMANSHIP, AND DOES NOT APPLY TO THE ORIGINAL FORD EXTERIOR ENGINE COMPONENTS, IGNITION, FUEL SYSTEM OR DAMAGE RELATED TO OR ARISING FROM:

e) DAMAGE OR ABUSE RELATED TO TOWING, OVERLOADING, PCM RECALIBRATION, MISUSE, NEGLIGENCE, ROAD CONDITIONS, LIFT KITS, OVERSIZED TIRES, AND OTHER NON-FORD APPROVED MODIFICATIONS.

I should say that I already have the Eibach pro truck kit installed, so anything that goes wrong in the future could be linked to the lift kit, although that would have to be proven. I am just more worried about the tune as I am more apprehensive about engine, transmission, etc. than suspension.

Thanks for your input :)
