I want to get the Ford Performance Tune for my 2023 2.3L Ranger. I do not want to install it myself. Can anyone in Colorado recommend an installer? I was quoted $1,3000 by the local dealership. This seemed pricey given that I have seen the programmer being sold online for around $700.

Thanks in advance.

sorry my guy, that's the rate. Installing is super easy, but a 'certified installer' to keep the warranty makes it a bitch.

If you don't care about the 'certified tech' part, I can install it for you (Colorado guy here too). If you care about the 'certified tech' part, then pony up the cash.

That is probably the going stealership rate. I have a friend that is an ASE Certified mechanic who did it for a case of beer. :) If you need to keep your warranty, ASE Certified mechanic or the stealership are your options for a pretty straightforward install.

Have you checked any 4-wheel drive shops I know that places here in Colorado Springs can do things like that like Tanner 4 Wheel Drive and Predator 4 Wheel Drive does some tuning but do not know prices or extent of their work. I was shopping around for tuners way back when I had my Ram 3500. There are around six shops that do it here. Also, it was a long time ago that I checked and so I cannot say if they still do it either.

I bought mine from my local dealer, then set it all up to be ready to tune, then I took it to the dealer and they charged me ~$250 for the install. Total was around $1150.

I would recommend setting it up yourself before you have it installed, that way you can do the updates yourself if/when new changes are released. Updates don’t seem to happen often, but it just gives you more flexibility if you needed to move or change dealers, etc..

Brud,

I like this approach. When you say setup yourself, I'm assuming:
1) Install the ProCal Software on my PC
2) Connect the ProCal Tool to the PC and update
3) Save the stock tune to the ProCal Tool
4) Upload the saved stock tune
5) Download the Performance Tune

Correct???

If you don't mind, which dealer did you use? I'm in Colorado Springs, so it would be Phil Long or I could take the truck up to Denver.

Thanks in advance.

That is correct - exactly that procedure. I’m in summit county so I went to summit Ford, but I would wager that Phil long’s mechanics have tuned a Ranger before.

One extra step I took was I printed out the install instructions and noted which steps I had already completed with a big sharpie marker, then I also noted which step they should start at. I don’t think the techs are dumb, but I just preferred to be really specific as opposed to leaving room for assumptions.

You’ll love the tune - the truck is quick and the shifting is definitely improved ?
