Hey all. I was playing around on the Levittown Ford website, and saw the Ford Performance M220 4:46 Ring Gear and Pinion. I'm not super familiar with drive train related things so I'm hoping you guys might be able to clarify. If I were to buy this for my 23 FX4, what benefit would I see?

Off the bat you change things like acceleration, and MPG. On one end you may gain, on the other, you may lose.
It all depends on other factors such as tire size and what your end goal really is.

The bronco forums have plenty of gear change talk, if you browse there you may have some of your answers, or it might cause more grief.

best of luck.

3.73 to 4.46 is a big jump. You'll gain acceleration from the start, but loose in the top end. Plus, MPG will suffer. Unless this is all offset by bigger tires.
Aside: Aren't Ranger ring gears welded to the carrier, meaning the whole carrier has to be replaced?

Have not looked at this but is it a kit for both front and rear differentials or just the rear? On your FX4 you need to do both! Wasn't aware there were re-gear set for the Ranger front yet.

Funny, I’ve been meaning to research what gearing our Ranger has. 3.73. Thanks for that. So, that’s the same axle the stock Base/Big Bend/OBX Broncos have.

There is a 4.27 option available too. Some are saying the MPG is great. Wonder if that will become an option for the Ranger for those with bigger tires.

I have the 4.46 in my Bronco, but it’s on 34” tires and manual transmission. If (re: when) I eventually go to 37” I plan to re-gear to at least 4.7.
