Some manufacturers are VERY bad about this. Like Audi and Tesla.
Oh you want heated seats? You have to pay a monthly subscription to turn them on.

it would be a complete waste of time because there's no way that's controlled in the app rather than on the back end. the app update just eliminates a user interface element that would either do nothing or error out.

I remember posting an article about this last year, now it looks like more are doing this. It's bad enough we have to deal with slimy dealers adding huge markups now these manufacturers are going to hit us too. What's next a monthly subscription to actually be able to drive your vehicle?

The article mentioned how people will come up with work arounds or jail break the system. Manufacturers were quick to point out that the warranty would be null and void.......I remember posting an article about this last year, now it looks like more are doing this. Cynical answer is, now part of your buying decision going forward is how does/will Ford's cost for subscription features compare with competitors? I haven't checked, but I bet GM, Stellantis, Toyota, etc forum members are just as resentful about now having to pay for formerly free connectivity features. As Dave alluded to, we saw this coming sooner or later. OEM's were looking for new revenue streams a decade or more ago and saw a hugely profitable market for selling app-based features.
Technically possible on the horizon any brand, and it may be possible for an OEM to turn off or control access to in existing vehicles via over-the-air updates.
- Express up/down windows
- Terrain management modes
- Stereo equalizer option or controls
- Heated seat controls
- Memory seat/pedal control.

hide it in my truck payment , I would consider a small fee in the summer if I could app my windows up and down , maybe , and control the fan , it should blow max air when it's 400 degrees inside my truck and I app start it ...
