There is the key fob thing already mentioned, but there is also a setting for secure idle, that will not allow the transmission to be shifted out of park unless the fob is present. On my 2020 lariat it was already enabled, but if yours isn't it can be enabled using forscan. You can test it by simply starting the truck, putting the fob away from the truck and then checking if you can shift out of park.
Wow thanks I will look at that option Really appreciate the help.

Thanks for the input. I will buy a key bag for sure. I will have to play around with the options . Will the truck run once started if the key is tucked in a bag? Or once parked bag it ? Kind of sounds a bit crazy but prob worth it in some areas where I travel.
I would think it would act just like starting the car and getting out with the fob in your pocket. This is where what Tom_C mentioned secure idle.

Nearly every online service now supports 2-fac authentication. We already have an app on our phone for the truck. Would be not terrible to have some form of 2 factor for our vehicles. You need the fob and your phone to drive. I get people may not always want to have their phone on them but could make this an optional setting. Sort of surprised haven’t seen this yet?

But when they are stealing it they are electronically emulating the fob, the truck will think the fob is present
I am glad I have the chip in the key system.

Can anyone help me out with a few questions concerning how to disable the ignition or secure my 2020 Ranger Lariat with push button start equiped with the tech package. My area is seeing a spike in car thefts that was capped off today with my sister inlaws 2020 Kia being ripped off in broad daylight.(I know the new Kias are sitting ducks and stolen like candy)
I have been looking for information concerning how secure the Ranger is or is not equipped for theft. Can I disable via Ford Pass or is my only option the dreaded club? I would like to install a deadmans switch hidden if possible or can the Ford Pass be used for this function?
How ez or difficult is it to steal a 2020 Ranger with push button start ?
Any help would be great Thanks John
Simple cheap solution to this. Get a faraday key pouch. It blocks the signal from the keyfob preventing anyone with a scanner from snagging the key codes and gaining access to the truck. Guy down the street from me had his Tacoma with push button start stolen out of the driveway one night. His insurance stated the thieves have a scanner that looks for the signals sent from the fobs, mimics the truck and tricks the keyfob into sending the codes out allowing the truck to unlock and start. They then use those codes to make a duplicate fob and can then walk right up unlock and start the truck like they had the actual fob. To prevent this his insurance adjuster told him to get the pouch and keep his keys in it when ever he's at home. After seeing how well it works, I got a set for mine and it works 100% of the time. I can have the keys in the pouch, walk up to the door and it will not unlock using the proximity unlock or start if pushing the button.

I've got insurance, I park in the garage at home, my fobs are at the rear of the home. And one of my dogs raises hell if a leaf drops within 500 ft of the house.

I'm not worried about it.

Parking in a garage helps, but the scanners can pick up fobs from 300+ feet away. These guys are pros they can nab the key codes and if unable to get to the truck at night, they'll find out the owner habits and nab it when the vehicle is easily accessible. such as when at work etc.

Yep me too But after watching my sister in law yesterday walk out to find her 2021 missing it got me thinking . We were in a high end area of town busy with lots of folks in the area. I figure a car on the hunt found her SUV and parked while a passenger walked up and flipped a ball bearing thru the side window and walked away. Then waited 5 min to watch for action. Return to car jump in and in 30 sec drive away. I may install a remote battery cut off that I saw that uses a nice relay and a micro switch.

Years ago a buddy of mine installed a fuel pump cutout relay switch and wired it to the back passenger seatbelt in his Civic Type S when they were the number one stolen car in the US. When ever he went anywhere and didn't want to risk having it stolen he's unbuckle the seatbelt. Without it the fuel pump would not kick on preventing the car from starting. His arms were long enough that he could easily reach the belt and buckle it from the front seat when he got back in the car. Car never got stolen and he left it in there when he sold it too.

Man, if I had to live with this much paranoia about having my truck stolen, I'd be moving off grid someplace in Montana. Jobs not a problem, I'm retired. Grew up in rural central Wisconsin, never liked or lived in big cities. Luckily worked for a locally based international consumer products company most of my career (KC). Have long decided life is too short to live in fear of something I can't control. Locks and anti-theft devices only slow down real crooks. If they want my truck, they will get it. I can always get another, that's what I pay insurance for.

they could not use a cell phone for 2 factor because too many people don't have phones, or phone coverage sucks, But it would be a simple addition to the software to ask for a PIN number on the computer screen to start the car. This would give you 2 factor "something you have" as in key or keyfob" PLUS "something you know" as in PIN) to start the car.
this could be setup to still allow remote start to work.

No fear here . More curious what options are available with Ford Pass or? It reminds me when my brother and I went to northern Wisconsin camping with his new Ford Explorer when his PATS key lost the program. Nothing would fix the issue of no start other than a tow to a dealer 150 miles away for a reprogram of key and ecu . I would say the PATS system really works lol

Totally agree, always good to know your options and be prepared. Just, this thread turned into a discussion on auto theft. Not something I worry about, but yes I take precautions. I lock my truck at night when it's not in my locked garage. But, I don't lock my keys, my credit cards and my cell phone in a Faraday cage every night.

Yep, still not worried.

My county saw a 1 in 100 chance in the fiscal year ending June 30th. I don't live in a port city where I have to worry about organized crime. In fact I live quite a bit out from the county's population, and crime, center

Also, again, that's what insurance is for. God forbid it did happen, I can finally recoup some of my government mandated gambling losses. All told, lifetime, I'm upside down about $60k on car insurance. Be nice for the house to take a loss for once. ;)

I get the curiosity. Check out your sticker. If I recall correctly the tech package Lariats like ours do have some sort of perimeter alarm. I want to say it only activates with the double lock push on the FOB.

A fuel pump disable switch would be easy enough to wire in. It'd be a pain in the ass to remember to throw all the time though.
