I would think it would act just like starting the car and getting out with the fob in your pocket. This is where what Tom_C mentioned secure idle.
But when they are stealing it they are electronically emulating the fob, the truck will think the fob is present

Simple cheap solution to this. Get a faraday key pouch. It blocks the signal from the keyfob preventing anyone with a scanner from snagging the key codes and gaining access to the truck. Guy down the street from me had his Tacoma with push button start stolen out of the driveway one night. His insurance stated the thieves have a scanner that looks for the signals sent from the fobs, mimics the truck and tricks the keyfob into sending the codes out allowing the truck to unlock and start. They then use those codes to make a duplicate fob and can then walk right up unlock and start the truck like they had the actual fob. To prevent this his insurance adjuster told him to get the pouch and keep his keys in it when ever he's at home. After seeing how well it works, I got a set for mine and it works 100% of the time. I can have the keys in the pouch, walk up to the door and it will not unlock using the proximity unlock or start if pushing the button.
Parking in a garage helps, but the scanners can pick up fobs from 300+ feet away. These guys are pros they can nab the key codes and if unable to get to the truck at night, they'll find out the owner habits and nab it when the vehicle is easily accessible. such as when at work etc.
Yep me too But after watching my sister in law yesterday walk out to find her 2021 missing it got me thinking . We were in a high end area of town busy with lots of folks in the area. I figure a car on the hunt found her SUV and parked while a passenger walked up and flipped a ball bearing thru the side window and walked away. Then waited 5 min to watch for action. Return to car jump in and in 30 sec drive away. I may install a remote battery cut off that I saw that uses a nice relay and a micro switch.
Years ago a buddy of mine installed a fuel pump cutout relay switch and wired it to the back passenger seatbelt in his Civic Type S when they were the number one stolen car in the US. When ever he went anywhere and didn't want to risk having it stolen he's unbuckle the seatbelt. Without it the fuel pump would not kick on preventing the car from starting. His arms were long enough that he could easily reach the belt and buckle it from the front seat when he got back in the car. Car never got stolen and he left it in there when he sold it too.

It reminds me when my brother and I went to northern Wisconsin camping with his new Ford Explorer when his PATS key lost the program. Nothing would fix the issue of no start other than a tow to a dealer 150 miles away for a reprogram of key and ecu . I would say the PATS system really works lol
Totally agree, always good to know your options and be prepared. Just, this thread turned into a discussion on auto theft. Not something I worry about, but yes I take precautions. I lock my truck at night when it's not in my locked garage. But, I don't lock my keys, my credit cards and my cell phone in a Faraday cage every night.

I get the curiosity. Check out your sticker. If I recall correctly the tech package Lariats like ours do have some sort of perimeter alarm. I want to say it only activates with the double lock push on the FOB.
