"The trans shifting" is a software issue. Not a hardware issue.

From what I understand the Ford extended warranties are quite simple to use. However, I don't know because extended warranties are scams just like insurance.

And just like insurance, it's a scam until you need it.

Maybe scam was too harsh.

Gambling on the house to beat you is more like it. I don't bet against myself more than the law forces me to. I'm a winner, not a loser, my momma told me so.

But even if you need it once or twice, it's still a scam. I've had two vehicles totalled and still haven't recouped the auto premiums I've paid over 30 years of driving. Don't even get me started on homeowners insurance. 15 years and never a claim.

Extended warranties are even worse. A hint, they don't lose money selling them.

This is what my dad and I laughed about all the way home after I bought my truck. At one desk, the sales desk, "you're buying a Ford Truck. Built to last Ford Tough®. Warranty? Pfff... you can clean it with gravel."

Next desk, the finance desk, "My brother you really never know with these cars, there are so many parts, so many failures, do you want to be the one stranded?"

Two desks about 150 yards apart, same building.

Do we really think the transmission issue is that big of an issue? I think your over exaggerating this. 90% of "transmission issues" I see on this forum are people that don't know how to drive.

And like casinos, the house always wins!

The bolded part is where it gets tricky. Sure if it's something small you can fix it out of pocket a lot cheaper and still come out ahead. But if the HVAC box goes that $2,500 right there and the BCM/PCM is going to cost you big bucks too. Tracy @Tracy Bowman unfortunately found that out the hard way and it cost here $2,000 out of pocket.

I've never bought an extended warranty in my life but I did buy one for my Ranger. There's way to much computerized stuff on there now and it doesn't take much to have a huge bill now a days. But it is just like gambling and I've never been good at it so there's that too. ?

BTW...your mom was wrong! ?

So in a nut shell, some have it some think is a scam and didn’t know it but I must not know how to drive:rolleyes:. When it shifts from 1st to 3rd almost all the time and now and then bangs into a lower gear can’t be a good thing. My wife drove it a few times and even said something about it..
Any one else have a positive answer to fords extended warrantee?

If something is wrong take it to the dealer to document it, even if they can't fix it. There maybe an updated reflash available.

Don't think of it as insurance - think of it as a bet. I'm betting that my truck will have a repair for 3k or more sometime before it hits 150k. If it needs a repair - I'm good. If it doesn't, I'm good too. Peace of mind, blend doors, transmission, electronic modules, whatever. It cost me 3k. I should have done it for my wife's 2016 explorer, but the A/C went at 120k and the transmission was going 15k later. I think as this generation of (all manufacturers)vehicles get older, the electronic problems alone will be worth the insurance.

As far as the transmission, I had to make a special appointment to check the transmission fluid level, but now its documented. I'd take it in and have them check it.

I was on the fence about it and definitely not willing to pay what they were asking for it. Then the finance manager offered to reduce the interest rate by another half point, to 2.5% at the time, which offset more than half of the cost. I challenged him on it, but he was firm since it was a bit of quid pro quo.

I took the deal and then cancelled it within the first 30 days getting to keep the lower interest rate, and I will pay off the truck a couple of months earlier.

I have a 6yr/125K mile bumper to bumper warranty. These vehicles are all computer-driven so IMHO the extended warranty is worth it. Gamble some call it.....just might be true but if you ever have one of those 'expensive' repairs comes around you won your bet!

Like AZ said, I learned the hard way & wound up paying $2000. Did I want to get an extended warranty? No. Not until I needed it. Am I glad that I now have it? You bet! :)

It was after you and a couple of the HVAC issues that I decided to get one. Not worried about anything mechanical but the electronics can get pricey.
