Forgot the answers to the 3 questions.
A friend who works in data security gave me a solid piece of advice regarding the security questions.

Never truthfully answer the question asked - that may be susceptible to social engineering or searching through social media for answers such as pet's name, street you grew up on, etc.

The answer to every question is the same, and it is only known by you. So, if the questions are model of first car, elementary school you attended, and maternal grandfather's name, the answer is the same and should be something in the 10-15 character range. I use the title of my favorite song - "stayinalive" or sometimes "nightfever". :like:

All in on some kind of biometrics for cars, but not a fan of the fingerprint biometrics. In my past Retail life managing time clocks and supporting POS systems with fingerprint logon options we found issues with women‘s prints being recognized quite often. After trying to figure out the cause we learned that moisturizers were making the prints unreadable (2 separate systems and readers) even when the hands were dry. As long as there is a viable alternative to potential issues, bring it on.

Just curious, did your friend in data security give you any advice about posting your passwords on the internet?

The fingerprint reader on my phone works good. Some trouble when working in the garden with small amounts of durt on the finger but otherwise works 100%. Only time I had trouble was after removing some skin by mistake with a 4 1/2 inch grinder and I just had to relearn it. Sure would beat carrying that giant key fob.

Well, since the conversation included a reference to the BeeGees, and I gave an example using song titles from the BeeGees, I'm going to go ahead and say, "it's a joke, I don't use BeeGees song titles as the answer to my security questions". As opposed to my passwords.

Personally I hate this idea. While I don't care for the huge boat anchor ⚓ FOB with the keyless entry, I'd rather it to this. My phones facial recognition doesn't work all that great and I have to use the passcode quite often to gain access. There's so many things in the real world that could happen and make this fail.

I know they say it can be updated but I see this as another solution looking for a problem. Then add the cost for this added technology which I'm sure won't be cheap to the already overpriced vehicles. Why not make them all keyless and design a smaller FOB? Unless there's an override (use of phone, or key) I don't like this at all.

What say you?

There are often times where I'm futzing in the yard and want to move Soupie. That means going in the house and finding the key - what bother! So this sounds attractive to me.

Speaking of attractive, I think the real key to this (see what I did there) is to have very unique biometrics. Like me: old, achy, short, fat poutine-eating, and Speedo-wearing. Very unique biometrics! No mistaking me for anyone else! =D

Okay, my real thoughts?

What could go wrong? Um ... everything!

What if I have a cold? What if I just emerged from my buried shipping container stronghold where I was using a gar stove (and don't get me started on the banning of water heaters!). What if I lost weight? (LOL, hypothetical) =p

The biometrics will go hand-in-hand with the subscription crap that's coming. The truck will read my biometrics and then check if I'm up to date on subscriptions, then possibly start.

It'll sell because many people will think this is cool.

Anyone remember when Volvo had that system, like 15 years ago, that could detect a heart beat in your car, as in some nefarious person hiding to kidnap you. It was a short lived feature (Volvo Personal Communicator - VPC).

Ive never seen them on one. Mine's a higher end Champion Triumph 40 safe and weighs 1,150lbs dry. I went with a regular S&G mechanical lock as they're pretty full proof. Ive had way to many problems over the years with electronic locks and once you do a dial a few times it's really quick to open one.
Dial lock is the only way to go. I have a Zanotti and they do not offer any electronic locks.

He uses a magnet to pull the switch here.

3 wrong tries and you're locked out.
Then forget password button.
Reset link sent to email to change password .
Click link enter new password , then enter it again to verify. Enter old password you forgot to reset.
Hour on phone with someone in India to reset. Forgot the answers to the 3 questions.
Slam the phone down, grab a beer, and repeat after searching for that little scrap of paper with the 3 answers ?
Hmm, if I lost my keys, the old Land Cruiser just needed two short wires with alligator clips.

Of course, if I had my security system on (which I used for years in Miami), then you'd need a hacksaw for the steering wheel.

It's a new iPhone 14 Pro. It opens the apps fine just not the notifications or my reminders on my locked screen. My 12 was the same way too.

? Now that I think of it maybe Apple hates my face.

Which will be the only time that you actually come up with that password again!

I swear, all of this "cybersecurity" stuff does a hell of a lot better job at keeping ME out of MY stuff than keeping out the hackers.
I'm a school district Systems Analyst... tell me bout it! Welcome to my world. lmao

^This^
You can sell anything if you make it the "cool" thing to do and shame those who don't.

I wouldn't want a fingerprint scan either. I live in the Great White North, and funny enough, about half of the year, I'm wearing gloves when I go out to my truck. That's gonna work real well after I get frostbite from having to pull off my gloves in below freezing temps to touch a piece of metal. As it is, the facial rec will become completely useless when I've got my jacket collar turned up, and my toque pulled lower over my face. At least with the retina scan, I could be mostly bundled up, and just remove my sunglasses in the dead of winter to unlock my phone. Using a keyed-in password isn't much better, because, again, have to remove the gloves; I have enough trouble getting my fat fingers to land on the right "key" as it is. Yeah, all of this shit really does do a better job of keeping me out than anyone else.
