With it being so new, you'd probably be better off trading it in and saving the difference in tax. Dealers are now offering competitive pricing compared to Carvana, CarMax, Vroom, etc...

I got better offers from KBB and Vroom than I did from Carvana. Used that info to deal with my local Ford Store.
Perhaps a good idea to try them all for the cash sale offer just to see, and then choose a different dealer that wants your business.
KBB was affiliated with several dealerships here in PHX, and after I got the online offer I began to get contacts from those dealers wanting me to bring them the truck so they could buy it.

But, if the dealer gives him anything close to what the online vendors are offering, the dealer's offer would be the way to go. 7% of $40k is $2.8k, so it would take a huge difference to make it worthwhile.
