Someone tried to make us 19 just over 200 years ago. It didn’t go so well…

But, if we make you #51, then your northern border becomes our northern border, and we can use state #51 as a buffer state to keep those pesky North Pole Immigrants out of the country !!!
Can't have those no good North Poleans coming in. They will just ruin our seal and whale population with their wanting to eat them !!!!!
Those that do sneak in, welllll, we'll just ship them to Greenland, state #52.....better yet, Puerto Rico... it's ours, but not even a state !!!!
Gooder on Us !!!!!

Greenland has placed their forces on high alert, rumor has it Canada is diverting Poutine reserves as we all know an army marches on it's stomach.

That looks way too cold - Puerto Rico sounds nice.

They don't need that just serve up some some Surstromming or Hakarl that would be enough to scare off any invaders. I've tried Hakarl, it's actually not too bad as long as you do not smell it before you eat it. If you do it is what I imagine a chewy urinal cake might taste like. But Surstromming is something else.

Another use for used oil is as a "fluid film". Just paint that stuff on the undercarriage to help prevent rust. :like:

With all the recommendations to do a lot of fluid related services yourself where do you all take the fluids to dispose of them and what do you store them in? I feel like it would be weird to roll up to a random mechanics shop and ask for them to get rid of quarts of transmission fluid, brake fluid, and oil and not have bought anything from them. But I haven't seen a giant collection tank outside of autozone or anywhere like that. Can I bring it to the dealership service center? Never seen anyone walk in there either. I'm not at all opposed to doing my own maintenance (especially once the warrantee expires), but I want to make sure I have the cradle-to-grave process understood before I start. As dumb as it is, this is honestly the biggest barrier to me doing more of my own work.

I'm getting ready to do 2,000 miles towing on my truck. It's only at 20k currently but hasn't had any fluids, other than oil, replaced since I got it 4 years ago. So I know i'm overdue brake fluid and I'm considering transmission fluid with all the issues i've heard of. Might delay that to after the drive or pay the dealer for the first one though just so I don't get stranded halfway if I screw it up.

*Edit: Sounds like oil is fairly simple. Is brake fluid treated the same?
I’d not do any changes. Top off where necessary. You say brake fluid low. Top off.
I’ve towed quite a bit. 20,000 miles not enough to be concerned. Top off.
Change after the tow miles, maybe. Or check to get a baseline of any tow mileage fluid depletion. Any concerns while towing? Check fluids.
But, your past 20,000 should tell you much about the future 2,000 mile tow.
I’ve 45,000 on my 19. No fluid depletion. That is my experience.
I wish you the best!

If you have a nice shop or garage - burn your waste oil.

I have a Vevor 8kW diesel heater and I run 80% diesel and 20% waste oil through it. I generate about 3-5 gallons of waste oil a year between vehicle oil changes and differential changes. It helps offset the cost of the big heater in my heated shop and makes disposal a non-issue.

For stuff like old brake or transmission fluid, I just keep it in the original containers or any clean, sealed jug until I can drop it at my city’s household hazardous waste center. Mine takes all automotive fluids for free, no questions asked. On bigger garage cleanouts, I’ve had acejunkremovalservice.com pick up mixed old car parts and spilled-onto rags, and they handled disposal responsibly, which saved me a headache.

Check your county's webpage. Ours recently changed their name and operation from Pierce County Recyling to Solid Waste Disposal.
They have a 250 gallon drum for dumping used waste oil, and separate smaller ones for coolant and trans. fluids. They also take mattresses, Appliances, scrap metal electronic scrap lead acid batteries, fluorescent and mercury vapor bulbs. Twice a year they have Farm & Home Cleanup Day for flammables and other hazmat. We're mostly rural ("where the cows outnumber the people") and the farms generate over half of the waste.

My used fluids go to Walmart and having spent 25 years in Alaska I’d suggest you stay away from the fermented walrus flipper for dinner.
