I had one in my glove box that set up shop on the air filter and birthed a few babies on there. The air filter had rat poop and pee on it along with baby rats. Let's just say the babies did not grow into adults! I set up some traps in the truck but the rat was never seen again after being seen in the glove box. I heard it in the AC system making all kinds of noise. Not sure if it was giving birth or got nicked by the fan???? It's been 6 months and no more problems. The rat got in at the beach not at my house.

I have a friend who has a large building in farm country in which he stores his extensive collection of antique cars.
To prevent rodent damage he periodically closes up the building and starts several cars, leaving them to idle for about an hour. All intrusive pests are summarily dispatched in this manner.
He then just clears the building and disposes of the carcasses.
Oddly enough.... any resident rodents ( mostly mice) tend to come out of hiding and die in the middle of the floor.

Is it common for there to be unplugged holes big enough for rats to get into the cabin of the truck? About a week ago I found a bunch of rat crap in the jockey box. I set a trap inside the truck caught a huge freaking rat! This has never happened to any of our other cars.

That’s the cutest rat I’ve ever seen. The ones here in Alabama are downright ugly(& horrifying).

This reminds me of my first wife’s father, who piped the exhaust from his pickup into the the gopher holes in their lawn. No more gophers for a long time.

On a more serious note, if the little fellow snuck in when you had the truck parked outside somewhere, or on a camping trip, then catching him is the end of your troubles (and the beginning of his). But, if he entered while your truck was in your garage, then your problems are just beginning....

The cabin air filter behind the jockey box was disgusting. Soaked in urine and feces. I checked that right away. That filter seems to pull air from inside the dash though. Would you happen to know where I should look for the outside air intake?

Unfortunately no not on this vehicle. I've seen that happen a lot on Honda's and Toyota's and all on cars. I got no idea where to look on a truck for the Fresh Air Intake. Guessing it will be on the other side of the fire wall from the box just below the windshield near the Wiper mount.

Daring soul...I hope he starts the cars nearest the door so he doesn't become a victim himself, although that's still not a guarantee...
No problem.... first of all, he is smarter than the mice, secondly the building has 4 huge overhead doors with remote openers.... well most mice anyhow...

Some of the pics shared... :puke::eek:

Oh, rodents...my little story.

Came out the day after picking my brand new Lariat up and saw some foam on the driveway. Thought nothing of it...went about my business. 2 days, 3 days and I'm thinking WTF and went searching. A Rat had gone up into Engine bay and started feasting on the Engine cover the very one that many XL & XLT owners are so mad they didn't get.

Did a TON of research...rats/mice hate PEPPERMINT. Stole my wifes diffuser peppermint, made up a spray bottle and now spray my engine bay down weekly. Have since re-installed the engine cover and my engine smells purty.

No kidding.
I'll look into that.
My Ranger is parked next to my firewood stackers (about 4 cord).
I have several mouse traps in the wood, which catch a couple of the rodents every week.
I figured that keeps them out of my vehicles.

But, if I can further deter the critters , AND smell pretty, WELL!
That's worth trying.
We'll see.
