Figured I would condense this into a single thread instead of two.

For starters, what are your feelings on running boards? I took one side off this evening and I am digging it from at least the appearance of being taller. I don't rock crawl or anything so clearance isn't really a concern, but I guess you never know when you might want that extra bit.

Second of all, something has always bugged me about "amber" lights in the sense of the current market. From my understanding amber was originally more of an orange tint color and over the years companies made them more yellow. Diode Dynamics appears to be the only company who sells light bars along the lines of the old way of thinking. Everyone else, Baja, Rigid, etc etc are all aboard the yellow train. Can any of the older crowd give some insight on why the shift in colors?

I used glass paint to paint some of my fog lights and recently found a color that was more amber in the classical sense and gave a bunch of coats to an old light sitting in a box. What do you think? The new color is more in line with amber marker lighting and turn signal lighting.

Performance lights, yellow have better penetration through weather...Amber/orange falls in accordance with FMVSS for marker/signal/warning lamps...as for steps, looks like you're all in on heavy duty so why not go the extra mile and use "sliders" as steps? They'll help protect your rocker in case you do make contact...

Projected lighting, Yellow for fog and ditch...White for long distance...Amber for all markers and turn...

I guess its just my OCD, it annoys me that my "amber lights" are not all the same shade of amber.

Why do you think Diode Dynamics opted for the more orange tint?

I know it bugs me too...but look at it this way...when the Yellows are on, it will be nearly or all dark...and they're considerably brighter than the amber...would be hard to see the two together...DD's fog's yellow is no different than my Baja S2 ditch yellow...neither of them are amber, as my pics shows...although when both are off, they do appear more amber...

Diode Dynamics are definitely yellow and not amber. I do like the contrast it gives while driving

My DD SS3 Pros definitely look more amber when off than my yellow Laminex tint for my light bar. When on, however, they are both very yellow.

One issue I have with the DD SS3s is that people seem very offended when I have them on as my fog lights, even when adjusted as low as they can go. I literally get flashed every single time I drive with them, and I've already resorted to only using them when there aren't many people around.

I think it's the hills, anybody that is below the cutoff must be getting blasted with ultra bright yellow light. I have the fog light pattern, but I also live in a not-so-flat area.

Do you have the Pro version? Mine is SAE and I've never been flashed...albeit hills are dicey...

I have the DD SS3 yellow fog Pro’s. Just drove into Banff @ the Canadian Rockies with them on. Nobody flashed me. They were a huge help with the blowing snow. I do have them aimed 4” below the mounting height. I find this a bit low. They are still amazing and do not seem to offend other traffic.

Have you seen the videos about the different colour temperatures DD uses? Their yellow lights use a warm white emitter, while all others use a cool white emitter. They show a comparison of the yellow as ordered and a pair of white once you have changed the lens to yellow. There is a noticeably more yellow light.

OP - I say do what you like with the steps. I like the look as long as they are not chrome. The truck looks taller without them for sure. I do like the more finished look with them.

Seems like Morimoto also offers amber orange choices;

From my understanding, as far as adverse weather goes it would go like this; red > orange > yellow

Well red is off limits and the industry standard is yellow, wonder why orange fell out of favor.

I think this calls for some... testing... oh boy..

For my part, I am six-three and so do not need running boards to get in or out of the truck. The wife is barely five feet tall, and so she needs them on her side. Since they come in pairs, and it would look too weird and unbalanced to just run one of them, I am kind of stuck with them--not that I really mind. Still, if it were just me, I would take them off, and your truck (at least the side without one) does look cool running naked like that. As for lights, does anyone sell them in a "cinnamon whiskey" color? That looks to be just about right...
