I mentioned being in Vegas recently, lest we forget today was the kings bday, with Elvis movie marathon on TCM, choose to watch Viva Las Vegas , Elvis wins the road race as well as the lovely Ann-margaret to end the movie. RIP Elvis.

A coworker in the Air Force in 1977, was from Spokane and he used to watch Styx practice in a neighbor‘s garage; imagine that!

My first concert was Peter Frampton with Gary Wright at Cobo Hall in Detroit. Had to buy the Comes Alive album of course; it was the law then.

Uriah Heap was always a great warm up band. Kind of saw Zeppelin in Phoenix in 1995, but it was really just Plant, Page and Bonham’s son on the drums. Bowie was great, Boston and Aerosmith played too damned loud, Kansas had the best acoustics, Pink Floyd the best stage show, Journey best sing alongs, and for some reason, the Scorpions were always very good on stage, Ted Nugent was just plane nuts, Kiss had terrible music but was like watching fireworks for 90 minutes, best guitarist was Jeff Beck, best drummer was Carl Palmer, best light show was Queen and the best concert, for me anyway was, The Who at ASU Stadium in 1982.

We attended a Styx concert and it was great but stunk. Someone 3 rows behind us hurled the nastiest smelling puke just before the concert started. We were up pretty high in the New Haven Coliseum and I think it flowed down under our seats making the whole area smell like puke. Got so bad it was hard to drink beer. We were all pissed as the culprit passed out after puking all over himself and the surrounding area. The security people couldn't get anything cleaned up or his stinking axx removed during the concert. Pulse it was sold out so they wouldn't let us move.

While not near as bad, when The Rolling Stones came to Charlottesville we got stuck right behind a rather large dude that smelled like sweaty, poorly wiped ass. Horrible!

I saw Ted Nugent with Blackfoot and to this day I still attribute my tinnitus to his show. It was a general admission show and I was there with my gf and we made our way to about the 5th row on the floor. I remember the felling of my ears wanting to explode and the bass pound off my chest and we were literally being lifted off the ground from everyone pushing and shoving trying to get closer to the stage. That was the loudest and most dangerous show I've ever been at and we ended up leaving the floor and finding a couple seats. I'm glad I went but not something I wanted to do again. lol

Queen was one I always regretted not seeing. They never came close enough and now wish I had traveled more towards Boston to see them. I did see the Foo Fighters backing up The Red Hot Chili Peppers in an outdoor show in Hartford, CT. While both bands were great I think the Foo Fighters stole the show. Saw Van Halen (the original with DLR) several times which were always crazy good shows. I dragged myself to see Van Hagar once but didn't like the show and just couldn't get into it with DLR.

Black Sabbath and Blue Oyster cult did a Black and Blue tour in the early 80's and me and a friend skipped school that day and bought out the whole row for all our friends. There was no internet back then so we walked 2 miles to the mall and took the bus downtown and waited in line for the Civic Center to open with hundred of others. Foghat & The Outlaws was another great one. We were 4th row from the stage and at the end the drummer threw his sticks and my buddy had it ripped from his hands. Then I felt something hit my chest and I looked down and it was the guitar pick from the lead guitarist Dave Peverett, on it says Lonesome Dave. which I still have today. My buddy was mad and said "I almost got killed for that drumstick and the pick falls right onto your lap". lol Damn good times that made the memories of the shows even better.

Queen was one I always regretted not seeing.

My only regret about seeing Queen is that it was at the Aladin Hotel in Las Vegas.

Shows there always sucked because it was too small a venue, with terrible acoustics, and the bands just wanted to play a quick show and get to the casinos.

One band I wish I could have seen in their hey day was Great White. I think they didn't get the airplay they deserved. Their music was unique, the guitar work and subtly was outstanding. 'Rock Me' always takes me back.
