I keep waiting for an exhaust for the 2.3 engine that makes it sound like a deep throated road thumping v8 big block engine.

I don’t want to start an argument, but I haven’t heard an exhaust for the 2.3 Ranger’s that sound good to me. I think it is personal perception. They all sound like a bad version of a Fast and Furious 4 banger. I want to get on the band wagon for the exhausts out today, but just can’t. I’d rather have no sound than a 4 cylinder engine turned up.

I will be putting on a nice exhaust tip and leaving it at that. Anyone else thinking same way? Can you post pictures of your replaced exhaust tips and call out the manufacturer and model?

I somewhat agree, some dude recently posted a video and I think he had the Magnaflow and I liked it. But I don’t know why you would expect it to sound like a V8, that ain’t gonna happen

I don't mean to be that guy , but you bought a four cylinder turbo charged vehicle, and then you are upset because it sounds like a 4 cylinder turbo charged vehicle.

Outside of Boxer Subaru Unequal length exhaust systems I dont think your gonna get that v8 *like* sound from any 4cyl with a spooli boi.

That said, I do think that the Ranger 2.3 exhaust sounds aren't the best even in 4cyl turbo class, I think it likely has to do with a few things...

1. The length of the exhaust system at large.
2. The automatic makes it rev slower then what i'm use to with 4cyl turbo vehicles, which changes dynamics abit
3. Turbo-backs always sound better then cat-backs, and I just haven't heard any ranger with a turbo-back system yet.
4. Natural characteristics of the 2.3.

Also, youtube\PC sound is highly subjective compared in IRL experiences.

Yeah, it's just not gonna happen. Should have bought a 5.0L F150. I personally think the Borla exhaust is the best sounding for our trucks.

I actually have thought about the possibility of manufacturing an unequal length turbo manifold. It would be hilarious to have a Subaru sounding Ranger. :rockon:

As for what you're looking for I think the Ford Accessories tip is going to be one of the best bets. Excellent chrome finish and rolled edge.

Clearly nobody has heard a 2.3 ford lima turbo on a 3" straight pipe from the turbo back, or straight pipe to a flowmaster 40. Nobody on earth would identify it as a ricer or fast n furious like. I do t know how different the new 2.3 is to know if it should inherently sound different... something tells me it should be similar if modded the same way.

I'm curious if AWE is going to get into the Ranger crowd. I have their track edition on my RS, its basically just a straight pipe.

I wish I had a sound clip of my old (87) Ranger. Cast iron exhaust manifold cracked so I needed a replacement. Hooker made a long tube header with a 3" outlet. I adapted that down to 2.5"over the axle into a Camaro Dynomax muffler (it just fit between the frame rails). IIRC, it had 2.25" outlets and I had twin 4" tailpipes. You could hear me for miles. I miss that 2.0L. It was fun.

I'm surprised that we even need a muffler. On my VW diesel I took the muffler off and relaxed it with a straight section of pipe. Normal driving you couldn't tell the difference and under throttle you could only hear the turbo a bit more.

Can confirm, my buddy has a '79 RS Capri (I call it a cougar for troll points) It's about 310Whp (which was a lot from that motor without spending tons of money) and it sounds like half of a Coyote at idle, and is very deep and loud compared to other 4 cylinders.

My Focus ST sounded like a sewing machine even after resonator delete, and 3" catless downpipe. It might sound better with a larger turbo, but the impeller was only the size of a US quarter.
