Exhaust system delete?

I removed my muffler and put a straight pipe in, keeping the rest of the stock exhaust.

I hated it, my wife hated it.

I ended up putting a muffler back in because it droned so bad and just plain sounded awful.

I don't think I would like a turn down there at all, but YMMV.

What kind of muffler did you install? How/where did the exhaust terminate? What were the results?

I wouldn't use the word "dope" but I have certainly enjoyed my Hayabusa...

I installed THIS one where the stock muffler was and used the stock exhaust.

It was a big improvement but still loud and a bit raspy.

Right now I am returned to stock system because I was offered significantly more for my truck than I paid for it, but I ended up keeping my truck and I haven't done anything with the exhaust since.

I may eventually install a full system from one of the aftermarket suppliers but it's not high on my list.

I'll bet Ford engineers spent a few coins trying try get a nice sound from the little 4 cyl to the point of adding a fake sound. So, if you are only trying to fix it good luck. You will probably end up with a "ricey sound".

I don't know what you mean by "fix it". My reason for exploring this isn't to make it sound different, I'm interested in potential weight savings...

I don't know... when I added my Vance & HInes pipes and tuned it, it's pretty damn fast. They've been fairly dominant in NHRA as well.

So you bought a pick up truck and you want to remove the muffler to make it lighter? What are you trying to accomplish?


And FYI....the motorcycle class was around and dominated by import bikes long before HD and Buell become extremely competitive....and they were horrible their first few year. The NHRA actually made rules changes to make the import bikes more competitive because of the HD/Buell dominance.

It's ok to like what you like....but to put down what others might like is just childish in my opinion.

The Hayabusa is an amazing street bike! Just not my cup of tea.

I don’t recall who it was but a guy at SGMP, was racing Larry McBride (Top Fuel Suzuki) the guy he was racing had a top fuel Harley....In qualifying, The Harley turned 4.99 in the Quarter at well over 200 mph ..

Same with Mcbrides Suzuki, btw, my best Dragbike was GSXR 1000..but I also had a few Harley Dragbikes ...
