I remember back in the 70's, Subaru came out with a small pickup with seats in the bed.

I wonder why it did not become more popular.

those rear seats were mostly a way to avoid protectionist truck import duties and subsequent safety regulations led to their demise.

Talk about an accident waiting to happen. Can you imagine trying to get that approved today? I'd love to see the airbag system designed for it. lol

That would make a great ejection seat. Hey lets go for a ride and you can sit in the back.... then boom, goodbye. lol

i would have loved those seats as a teen. me and my friends were all lower to middle class small town kids. we all had old single cab pickups. on many occasions we had 7 people in a single cab. 4 in the cab the rest in the back. it was legal back then lol. i think its against the law now.

They were quite popular (they were made from 78 to 94), enough so that Mopar came out with one called a Rampage in Dodge trim or Scamp in Plymouth trim. Since Mopar didn't have import duties to worry about they didn't have the jump seat in the back. The later model Brats didn't have the jump seat.

ever wonder why we drive on park ways but park on drive ways-
or how we say things like take a poop -
i mean is it not more correct to say leave a poop? hopefully we are not taking it any place else since we already carried it to the toilet.
wonder why we have door locks on places that are open 365 247-
ever wonder why we blame guns and drugs for crime and murders-
but we do not blame forks and spoons for obesity or flies for smelly garbage cans-
we demonize the alcohol and not auto manufactures -

ok im done for now lol.

I liked them as a kid. I think VW had a version without the seats too like the dodge.

If you watched "my name is Earl" his ex drove one an her kid rode in the back in the rain

The Brat and Rampage were huge! Crosley had the right Idea for a compact pickup:

Because if you ever had one of those death traps pull out in front of you and you get to witness the two children sitting in the bed go flying down the asphalt, they don't seem such a great idea afterwards :(
