I was just saying that it was possible and trying to show that the decal doesn't necessarily prove that is an FX4. As mentioned by myself and others the VIN should be enough to prove it should a potential buyer challenge you on it.
Whether the FX4 stickers have been removed or added, a check of the info display will tell. Only FX4s
have the roll/pitch/steering angle graphic in the display. Also, steel bash plate and skid plates for the fuel tank EPAS, and transfer case.

Unless I misunderstood, according to these guys, it is a Forscan settting:
https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/terrain-management-upgrade.4901/page-8

and the other items you can order. And to further complicate things, they can be removed or replaced by aftermarket skid plates. In the past manufacturers have used a digit in the VIN to identify specific models. Guess we need to figure that out now

Unfortunately, the VIN doesn't get that specific. This portion of the service manuals describes how to decode the VIN:

https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/attachments/100-general-info-shop-manual-zip.2974/

This didn't paste very well, but you get the idea:

Item Description
1 WMI (World Manufacturer Identifier)
Item Description
2 Restraint-type and GVWcode
3 Vehicle line, series, body-type code
4 Engine-type code
5 Computer-generated check digit
6 Model year code
7 Assembly plant code
8 Production sequence number

For the Ranger, the only real differentiator, other than the sequence number is the Vehicle Line, Series, Body type:

Positions 5 through 7 indicate vehicle line, series and body type.
R1A - Ranger, Super cab, RWD, Pick-up box delete
R1E - Ranger, Super cab, RWD
R1F - Ranger, Super cab, 4WD
R4E - Ranger, SuperCrew cab, RWD
R4F - Ranger, SuperCrew cab, 4WD

This may have mattered 30 years ago, on a modern car you can just literally pull up the original sticker given the VIN. This whole sub thread is a non-issue.

When I bought my Ranger I called my insurance company and all they needed was the VIN # to get all the info,I know in the past they would want the window sticker. I wanted to make sure I received all the discounts for the safety features and they said they can get all that from the VIN #. Once I received my policy all the credits were there so there must be something within all those numbers that tell what features are on the truck?

When I bought my Ranger back in January, I went online (somewhere) and printed a copy of the window sticker. However, I can't find the site again - I think it was somewhere on Ford.com, but when I tried it today, it comes up and says "not released yet".. don't know what happened...

I believe that is only good while it is in production - once it is sold, it goes away in like a week or two. If you want a "replacement" window sticker Ford will charge you something like $25 for it now.

That is directly from the service manual. It does not appear to get too in depth as far as features. Just the general truck (2WD, 4WD, crewcab, supercab, engine, etc). There is this which I could see being used for insurance:

Restraint Type
The fourth VIN position is the vehicle restraint and GVW code.
E - 6,001-7,000 lb GVW, active safety belts (all positions), driver and front passenger air bags and side impact
inflatable restraints (1st and 2nd row)

Companys spend millions trying to think of names that will attract buyers. My Dads 56 Ford Station Wagon had Thunderbird on the side and he loved it. Hyundi makes a Tucson model. WTF does Hundyi have any connection with Tucson, AZ. Nissan used to be Datsun so Americans would not think it was Jap vehicle. The Ranger should have been the F-50 but Ford nitwits probably didnt think that sounded sexy enough. What does the XL, XLT, mean? I know what the Lariat means, you got roped. LOL  ?

Hi Thom,

When I hired into Ford in 1973, Custom was the base model. Then XL in the middle and XLT was top. Custom was top of the line at one time way back when. Now XL is the base model. And so it goes with the Marketing Slippery slope of trim levels....

I don't know -- my truck was on the dealer lot, it was made in Dec '19 and I bought it in Jan '20 - don't know when it was considered "in production".... color me confused!

I like the badging, if I like the product. I won't do dealer stickers and such, but any aftermarket stuff I want to be badged. Maybe it's my vanity but I want those who are interested in my truck to know I didn't put cheap fleabay parts on it.

One that I have is my spray in bed liner; it came from a place called veteran bed liner. His thing is a dog tag with his business info stamped in. He sets the tag into the liner before it dries.

I should have been clearer - I believe it is available until it is considered sold - meaning it is only available for "new" vehicles. Once Ford knows it is sold, it disappears soon after. I don't know for sure if that is the case, but that is what I understood and matched my truck pretty closely.

That's possible. Oh well, I have both the original one from the truck and the one I downloaded as a PDF, which can be printed any time I might need it..
