Everyone,
I have a diesel like rattle from the engine during normal acceleration at around 3000 rpm. When accelerating on very light throttle or hard acceleration there is no noise which tells me it's not a valve or rotating assembly issue. It seems to be getting worse. My 21 FX4 is 8 months old and has 25,000 miles on it. I've checked all the obvious things like oil level, etc., but everything checks out fine. Before I take it to the dealer, does anyone else have this issue?

You're a prime candidate for an extended warranty. Don't wait.
I have the lifetime powertrain warranty so not concerned on that front. Just wanted to see if anyone else has had the same issue in case I get the same "normal characteristics of vehicle" BS from Ford that I got about my low speed shudder and highway vibration that I still deal with daily. Can't wait for GMC to releae the redesigned Canyon Denali so I can order one and trade my Ranger for one. I've never been as disappointed with a new truck. Frustrating to have a vehicle that I like so much and is so close to being incredible but having issues that ruin the enjoyment of driving it. Ford could have knocked it out of the park with a little more development.

Thanks Don

" lifetime powertrain warranty"?
Please, indulge me. Where do I get one?

I don't think your clatter is normal. I also have a 2021 with 25,000 miles. There is the normal mild ticking sound under acceleration from the high pressure fuel pump, but at steady cruise it's not there. Your shudder/highway vibration could be a driveshaft that is out of phase or an unbalanced tire(s).

I'd try a different dealer. I found out that they are not all the same or even similar in some cases. I've been very satisfied with the service I get now, having left my hometown dealer. If possible, ride along with the Service Advisor to confirm he/she can also identify the problem.

If no joy there either, take it to an independent transmission shop. You would pay out of pocket for any repair, but you would likely get less than fair market value for it as is at the GMC dealer, so you might end up "paying" for a repair anyway.

I joined this forum months before I ordered my Ranger to get a handle on how owners' experiences were. I din't want to get another disappointing vehicle like my 2018 Escape was. nor have the major problems that 3G fordescape.org owners were having. I decided that I could deal with the common and rare issues that R5G-ers were having. If you are thinking about a Canyon or any other brand, follow their forums for a while.

It was standard with the purchase from the dealer. Once the standard warranty expires, as long as I have documented maintenance done per the Ford maintenance schedule, the entire powertrain is warranted for as long as I own the truck and any repairs are covered and done by any ASE certified shop in the US and Canada. Not sure if it can be added after purchase. Check with your dealer. There was no cost.

I've been through two dealers and had the TSB done by both at the direction of Ford Customer Service. Neither helped with the low speed shudder. I picked up the highway vibration after the first TSB was performed and now can't get rid of it. The second desler performed the TSB with no improvement, road force balanced the wheels with no improvement and told me that the OEM Hankook tires were crap. I invested $900 for a new set of Firestone Destination LEs and have had them balalnced by 4 different reputable tires store with no improvement.

Just about over it with this truck.

I have the engine rattle too. It's not getting worse. I honestly think it's a resonate vibration under the hood rather than a component waiting to fail which is why it's only heard at a very specific RPM. Time will tell.

I'll see if I can get it to do it when parked so I can have the hood open and get a better sense of the sound and where it's coming from.

Mine only does it under normal acceleration. I tried to get it sitting still and it doesn't make the noise.

I hate to break this to you, but those sorts of warranties run rampant amongst the shadiest and most crooked dealers who are generally the worst of the lot. These are literally the people Ford wants gone. Good luck and go buy a real Ford extended warranty.
You're gonna need it.

Can you post a video of what you're experiencing? There's no denying these things shake a little, but diesel rattle seems a bit extreme.
