15k is to rich for my blood for a 7-8 year old truck. Unfortunate.

I have owned everything over the years, I will stay with the known piece of shit I have, I drive it like I didnt pay for it, Over load it by 1/2 ton more than its rated for, and dont bother to change the oil
you changed your oil way to often! I have friends with the Chevy version and all I hear are swear words, my friend with toyota LOL spends hundreds keeping his on the road, they dont make their money selling you a new vehicle, they make it on the parts they sell you after! Look at Saturn, they went out of business because they made a car that worked!

I fully understand. I had no idea Used Motors were that cheap. A friend of mine who is a mechanic just bought a 2019 with 209,000 Mi on it. He said worst case scenario, if the motor goes it cost me $2000 and a busy weekend. He got the truck so cheap that it won't be painful if he has to spend the extra money. I just figured where you already owned it, you might want to go the same route.

The truck is paid off, I'm exploring my options for how to get rid of it. Whether I get it fixed and sell it, or have it hauled off a cliff.
I don't have the time, room to work, or equipment to replace the engine myself. I appreciate the insight though.

Water intrusion is a fairly well known issue with the gen 5 ranger, Ford uses a split design cowling under the windshield, which allows water from outside the vehicle to leak into the engine bay under the middle of the windshield, causing pooling on top of engine, which in turn can and does pool around the spark plug boots, then seep into the plug wells, filling the plug well with water, causing a misfire event. Prolonged/multiple occurrences can and will eventually damage the engine.
I've had 5 events, the fifth of which caused the catastrophic engine failure.
Ford's answer to this is an engine cover, which only prolongs this eventual situation. Not everyone has this happen, but those of us who experience it have legitimate reason to lose faith in the vehicle, and brand.

That situation usually ends up worse case with a cylinder head replacement. How did it evolve into a “ blown “ engine?
Just exactly what was the catastrophic failure, like component wise?

Sounds to me like they don’t want to fix it ( i.e. put a cylinder head on it) and instead just throwing a long block at it. Highly unlikely it’s a total engine failure. But you won’t know unless you ask.

Wow, I haven't experienced the issue, but have seen it come up numerous times here. People have discovered ways of preventing the water getting to the top of the engine. I have a hard time believing, after 5 occurances, that this could not have been remedied one way or another. Yes, it's Ford's fault, but good lord, a little research could have prevented so many repeat offenses, no?
