While this may be partially true, I'm betting the cost cutting is the main reason.

Along with the bed tie downs, shifter bezel illumination, folding headrests, etc, I'll bet Ford is saving $20 of their cost per Ranger

And don’t forget the cast aluminum spindles and knuckles…. Changed to cast iron

My Lariat is a fully loaded FX4 and doesn't have it.

I even have the black appearance package, it should have come with that plus black lug nuts, not chrome like it has.

There are some goofy little things like that they were overlooked.

Ford ended engine covers around January 2021. Doesn’t matter the model they don’t come with them anymore. You can still get them though but it will become a collectors item down the road

I added it to my 21 mostly for looks, the engine compartment just looked unfinished, kind of like the missing ignition ring, which I also added. IMO its not large enough to trap much if any heat, might knock down a little top end noise but after 40 years of shooting guns I can't hear shit anyway.
