Its amazing how much power the criminals have in today's society. We the bystander who steps in either get's assaulted or charged.

This story about catalytic converter theft kinda made me laugh. "If anyone sees this type of theft in progress, they are asked to call 911". The criminals are long gone before the police arrive.

Maybe, I am not understanding how things work in recycling. Why aren't the recycling places held a bit more accountable for criminals who bring in stolen material. There should be some certification to say bring in catalytic converters and other material.

I'm in CA. Last year my 2002 F250 was stolen from my driveway. Had them on camera and the same thief was caught driving the truck (after causing $9k in damages). He was released within the hour and was caught 3 hours later in another stolen vehicle that he stole from an auto auction. Hold him, right? Nah, they released and that night he was caught yet again stealing a car from that same auto auction.
That sounds about right for CA. The criminals know nothing will happen to them, as well as the police know the DAs wont charge them with anything.

Glad I moved to a small town in NorCal, we have almost no crime at all now.

Unfortunately many areas refuse to prosecute many crimes. California is the worst (from what I've read). Store employees have to stand by an watch shoplifters walk out with stuff. I hear SF won't prosecute anything under $950 in theft. To one political party property crimes are committed by "victims of society" an what ever they take from their oppressors is fair (reparations). In recent years an effort has been made to put activists into office as prosecutors for this reason. National money into local races. The "sanctuary city" policy of refusing to turn illegals that commit crimes over for deportation hasn't helped either.

If you're in California an what I've been reading is wrong please let me know. I know the media can make things sound worse than they are. I just read today about the number of companies moving to Texas from CA. It wasn't just one reason but a combination of taxes, cost of living making wages expensive, regulations being hard to comply with, cost of land to build an expand.
You are not wrong. $1000 or less and you will get a slap on the wrist and released. That's why you see videos of people loading up wal mart shopping carts full of thick tubing/wiring, hop in the car and drive off. Wal mart legally can't stop them, and cops won't care to drive over.

From what I have heard, SOME counties are cracking down on the metal recyclers having proper papers for the metals/CAT's. However, just remember its the small few of counties who actually give a darn.

Yup, this morning my truck was peeked at underneath by a stranger for the CAT. Too bad I have a skid plate and the cat is connected to the turbo.
The Ranger CAT is tuck in and there is a cross bar which is not easy to steal.

And just another reason why I love my truck. Thanks for the insight Bladimir.

You are right and correct, the LIBS out here doesn't care until the shit happens to them from their own doing, by then it's the only time they will change their mind about how they vote but it's already too late. This shit is happening to all towns and City is Cali mostly run by Democrat mayor's and councils. I'm not sure what is their true rational about this situation, I'm sure some of the council members have their own family businesses.

Nope, you're spot on. I actually feel for LEO, they are doing their jobs. They keep arresting the same people over and over, just for them to be released with no bail.

I have lived in central Denver most of my life, and I can no longer count the number of times my vehicles or homes have been broken into. Computers, cameras, guns, and jewelry (including the Princess’s wedding set) have been stolen. Very few of the items were ever recovered and I only know of one arrest.

It’s happened in each of the many neighborhoods where I have lived, some are among the “nicest” in Denver, and others not so much. I don’t know if it’s any worse these days or not, but I do know we hear about it more often. And as I watch more of my friends and colleagues flee the Big City for safer places, my home becomes more secure. Hopefully.

How I felt about going to court for a DUI. This was in my younger years. Paid $5K for a lawyer.
When I went to court it was very uneventful. I could see the Popo disappearing outside in the court room hallway. Must of been in the courtroom like 20min. I got off !. This was just my feeling on this one event. I felt as long as you were paying into the court system they were happy. The middle class just get's screwed. What are they suppose to do to someone with no money. The one way I could relate to my mother, her saying I did not raise you well was. I am a part of society not a detriment. She had 3 boy's.

I was stationed in San Diego for about 2 years in the mid 90's an it's a beautiful area. I kept my car registered an insured in Florida though to limit the CA affect. It's sad such a beautiful area is being made unlivable by policies. My nephew was stationed at Miramar about 15 years ago. When get was getting out he looked into staying there an after house shopping he ended up in the Tampa area. Guess he was ahead of the curve

Sorry to hear that. People, leave anything of value under the seat or at least in the back seat by the floor mats. At least the tint will hide it. I heard even chargers/cords attract thieves. Tuck those wires. When they see a cord they thing there is something of value in the vehicle
Found out the hard way about leaving a charger cable visible. In 2008 I took my 2007 Sport Trac to New Orleans and stayed at Harrahs for the July 4th weekend. They broke out the passenger window and took the GPS cord (I had the GPS with me), change cup full of Canadian coins, my house keys and generally made a mess. They went nuts trying to find a release for the factory tonneau cover but there is not one. That cover is about 4" thick, heavy steel. Ford did their job on that design.
I try to never leave anything in a vehicle since then.

After suffering minor losses from a "smash and grab" incident some years ago (described in post above), I chatted with the Park Police Officer who took down my information. He told me that these guys are hardly ever apprehended since they leave the scene so quickly and dispose of the goods shortly afterward. No surprises there, and I never really expected anything to come of my report. He also listed the Park's different parking lots in terms of the number of incidents they experience so that I could choose to park in the safest lots going forward, which I have done ever since. He also told me that the number of incidents always increases with the coming of the Holiday Season, as thieves want to get their families nice things for Christmas etc.! I always found that last thought depressing....
