De-activating RFID sensor?

How does the RFID system work in a Ranger? Could a switch be installed in the cab to deactivate just the RFID pick-up?

It would add the ability to leave my spare key in or on the truck.
End the honking when I close the doors with keys in while getting gas.
Eliminate the RFID fob scan theft.
Unmarked anti-theft kill switch, even if fob in hand.

When you're getting gas you could just shut the door to the first "click" and not all the way and it won't honk. If you want to leave your keys and fob in there you could get a Faraday bag and leave it in the console then use your app to unlock it. Or you could get a keypad and install it inside the gas door.

The kill switch is the primary goal though, using the RFID circuit instead of the fuel pump kills multiple birds with one stone.

All kidding aside, this really is a MENSA-quality idea! I usually get the keypad for my vehicles but hate the way they break up the truck's look and lines. That sucker is going on the inside of the gas door on my next truck....

Definitely looks better than mine does on the blue door above the handle. What was I thinking? But the next time around, it is going on the inside of the gas door, where it belongs (out of sight)!
