There are so many damper posts that I can't read them all before I die of boredom.
I have 2 questions.
You put on a damper so that you can unlatch the tail gate, and let go of it, so that you don't have to lower it using your arms, and it drops safely by itself.
Is this right?
Now, to close that tail gate, you have to lift that same tailgate you could bother to lower safely by hand, and now you not only have to lift that heavy tail gate, but you have to lift against the strength of that damper too.
Is this right?
I don't see the upside to this except to lighten my wallet a little. Sorry if this has been answered a few hundred times.
The damper controls the drop rate preventing the gate from violently banging against the cable stop...the resistance is only enough to achieve this...lifting the gate with this resistance is minimal unless you're trying to shut the gate as gravity freefall speed...

The tailgate damper is a standard feature on many other trucks...most are hidden within the hinge...Ford has a habit of deleting features and seeing that you have a 23, you should look up the list of items that has been deleted for you that the 19s all enjoy...

Well, it still seems to me that lifting the gate with a damper at any speed, is going to require more effort than without the damper.

I'll pass on one, but I've seen a few others that have valid reasons for getting one.

Oops, if I'm showing. that I have a '23, I need to change that. It's a '22. Dang.

THERE! you've just dispelled the arm muscle atrophy myth...I though I felt my arms getting pumped with each lift of my damped tailgate...

Ban the thread, ban the damper and ban the Dave. Every site needs occasional cleanup.

Imagine you left your hammer on the rear bumper. At least with one you have 2.5 seconds to remember that. Without one, crunch!
It's one story that kind of swayed me to putting one on.
