Cruise control hard shift

So at speed, in cruise control, going up a long interstate incline, when I intercede and hit the the gas to pass my 2019 Ranger will slam between gears very hard. Seems to only do when in cruise? Thoughts?

If the truck was lugging in say, 10th gear and you stomp on it, it could drop 4-5 gear and rev very high to cause what seems like relatively harsh engagement of more power and torque all at once...

Try the same hill in Tow mode, Then Sport and see if it still does it...

No, just cruising 75 and kick it down to pass a semi. I think being in cruise and on an incline is a factor.

not sure if turbo lag is causing you added grief.
I have found this engine loves a nice spirited gradual press on the accelerator rather than mashing it to the floor.
The turbo does its thing marvellously under those circumstances and you accelerate quickly and smoothly and it doesn't tend to drop a lot of gears.

Yeah, the 2019 lariat doesn’t have various driving modes outside of four-wheel-drive

another thing that I was thinking about, are you using adaptive cruise control?
Are you passing when it's thinking youre too close?
Maybe its mixing it signals at the right or wrong time depending how you look at it.
