That's really weird, I had a crack filled and an entire windshield replaced when I lived in California. Didn't pay a dime regardless of my deductible.

Maybe call some other glass places? Kinda sounds like the guy you talked to didn't know what he was doing maybe?
I asked for factory acoustic glass is probably why so high.

Might I ask why such a high deductible? If you get into an accident you end up having to pay that too.....
1k deductible not too high compared to annual rates. Zero deductible and I would pay 1k more per year.

But a 500 deductible would most likely get you $0 glass coverage as well. Even then the annual rates wouldnt be as high

Thanks but I’ve done my research over the last 50 years of driving vs my experiences. Heck 1k out of pocket over how much I’ve overpaid in those past years for a low deductible is peanuts. No worries here…

I'll answer.

Because insurance is a losing bet, and I refuse to participate in said ponzi scheme any more than I'm legally required to.

I keep a thousand dollar deductible as well. I'm a big boy, I'd rather bet my money on me 'cause my mama told me I'm a winner.

My windshield from Safelite was free…
So was mine.
Insurance paid it all.
Glass coverage was worth it.

We have Travelers...added a full glass replacement...factory glass with a $50 deductible.
Costs us an xtra $48.00 per year for both our vehicles. That's for all glass, front, sides, rear. Includes install and any re-calibration of safety equipment. Most of your good companies have a replacement glass add-on to your comp,,,ya just gotta ask about it.

“The Florida windshield replacement law (also known as Florida auto glass replacement law) is a statute that waives windshield repairs. So, if your windshield needs repairs or replacement, your auto insurance provider is prohibited from applying a deductible. The windshield repair, or replacement is done for free.”

Damn insurance laws and coverages are so varied from state to state. Here in Va, a chip repair is covered with no deduct., but a replacement isn't. Comes under the comp, and full replacement, like my coverage can be added for little cost.
I'm pretty sure nationwide companies that do chip repairs won't repair a crack....here in Va it's a big no-no.

It actually depends on the insurance company. I used to have GEICO but they tried to say Colorado doesnt offer glass coverage. I went to state farm and they gave me glass with no issue. With that said it all depends on the company.
