I did some searching but didn't find a whole bunch. My daughter is coming home for Xmas and I would like to help her with a couple "perceived" issues. That's right, I am not sure there are problems and as the truck is out of 3/36 I wanted to do a bit of troubleshooting myself before spending $. She has a 2019 Ranger. I believe it is Lariat trim.

1. She drives another Ford at work and says that the ACC (adaptive cruise) is very erratic compared to the work vehicle. She basically descibes it as "over active". Rapid braking and acceleration versus a more smooth transition like the other Ford she drives. I did google and find a discussion about misaligned radar and a potential recall, but nothing else. I plan to highway drive it myself as I have 3 other Fords with ACC. I told her on the way home I wanted her to set it at maximum spacing and tell me what happens. Anything else to look at on this one?

2. She is a greenie so she really likes the concept of START/STOP. She says that her Ranger seldom stops. I know the entire list of things that can prevent the truck from activating a stop sequence because I did a bit of troubleshooting when she was home this summer. What I did then was change the battery because I found it was "weak" and that can be a potential cause of not activating the STOP sequence. Is there anyother thing I should troubleshoot on this issue? I can say that not all of my Fords act the same way on SS. Bronco and Explorer are extremely active and F150 not so much so. So maybe it's just a Ranger thing?

My wife's Edge seldom auto stops, she doesn't drive it that much, so I think that is why.

I had a coworker with a fleet ranger that would never turn off, he found that if he didn't push the brake down hard enough at a stop it wouldn't engage the auto stop/start.

It could also be that she needs a new battery, you can pull up the fuel economy window that shows engine status, and when you stop it'll usually give you a reason why it won't auto shut off, like battery charging, or climate control, etc...

Sounds like you are probably already aware but this is in the manual for the ACC. I keep it at 4 bars just for the slower response of the system unless I need it to respond quicker in a certain scenario.

That is what my F150 does for certain. I can test that one.

I can say the ACC in my 2022 Ranger is amazing compared to the ACC in my wife's 2020 Mazda CX-5. I hate her system, it slows down WAY too early and waits WAY too long to speed back up. My Ranger brakes at the last second and speeds back up immediately. Note: I am from Illinois and though I am a good distance from Chicago, I still drive like an asshole, so the ACC fits my personality.

Wow I would call number two a bonus, a number of studies have shown that although it may save some gas, over all auto stop start probably costs more to the environment than it saves by shortening the life of your battery, starter motor, and engine. And no manufacturer in their right mind would willingly fit it unless compelled to by legislation.

Understand but didn’t want a debate on that. She wants it, I’m her dad. My job to figure it out.

Honestly without driving it I can say for sure. With that said I know the Auto start stop is a finicky system as it can simply be disabled by the battery being weak. After you get the truck I highly recommend taking it for a drive and see what you can notice. After that take some time to look into the owners manual. Careful now, it may be full of cob webs!!

You can't always get what you want, but you get what you need. My kids learned that lesson early on.
