Could these problems be a RAM issue?

All the following issues cropped up in about a month:
  • USB Music now indexes all music from multiple folders after startup (it used to just continue playing the songs in whatever folder I selected last time)
  • USB Music always starts with song #1 now.
  • Trip History in Navigation is blank
  • Can't save favorites while in Navigation
  • Sometimes Navigation will resume an old trip which was not selected (i.e. no trip used when shut off, but resumes old trip next time driving).
  • Although phone is setup to automatically download contacts, it doesn't.
It seemed to me most or all of these could be memory (RAM) related. Most problems happen frequently, but not always (i.e. "randomly").
With this in mind, I performed a "Master Reset" on the Sync 3. Most problems were gone for about a day. One-by-one, they started coming back over the next couple of days.

My big questions is this: Is there removeable RAM in the Sync 3 system, and if so, can it be replaced?
Thanks you.

I don't think it would necessarily be a RAM issue, as that type of memory loses all data when power is removed. Might be an issue with the FLASH memory (solid state storage type) or a bad software install.

But as @cfhgarza said, everything would be soldered to the board, so not really user friendly for replacing, plus reflashing the OS would be a massive pain...

My sync hasn't been great lately either, seems to always forget my contacts despite having synced them repeatedly. I found the best option is to just keep my phone plugged in and run off of android auto for everything (which i usually do anyways)

Thanks for your thoughts.
How old is your battery? I’ve started having a lot of issues w/sync and other electronics.( auto stop no longer works& only driver door keyless entry works) Most here will say start with battery if it’s 3 years or older. Mine is 4 1/2 years old and about to change it before it leaves me stranded. Just an FYI

Mine's a 2019. I purchased it in 2021.
It's probably the original battery.
Thanks.

It may be time for a new battery, but try resetting it to Factory Defaults, then go back and personalize. If that doesn't help try deleting everything from the APIM; phone,(s) contacts, map favorites, etc. then rebuild; tedious, I know,
but that's the kind of guy I am.
devil grin.webp
You could wait until you have the new battery, as you will have to reenter a lotto that stuff, anyway.

Be sure whoever installs the new battery resets the Battery Maintenance Monitor.

What build are you on? From what you are describing, it sounds like you may be on build 22251 which develops a lot of issues over time. I would update to build 23188 if you have anything older and see if your issues are fixed.

I was just about to post this very thing. Build 22251 had a lot of issues including a memory leak that was filling its available memory so that "last used" settings would reset to defaults. Lots of other wacky issues.

I would suggest using Cyan Labs to do the update USB. Much easier than the hoops Ford puts you through.

Thanks. I'm guessing I'll need to do this at the dealer.

You most likely have version 22251 of Sync. It’s a problem version (see here) with these issues as you have.

Remedy is a new version (23188 I think?) that should be available to you. See the linked thread above for more info and help.

I found that my automatic updates were off for some reason. I had them turned on previously.
After checking, I was on ver 3.4, build 22251. I downloaded and installed build 23188.
My question is: Will it automatically use the new build?
Thanks

Yes. on the next restart. The new build has been written over the old. Also any of your settings, like presets and splash screen, will be transfered to the new build as these are stored in the modules asbuilt file.

Thanks to everyone who offered advice. The new build cured all the problems mentioned. All is good here. ?
