I’ve seen this type of way of closing doors without touching the outside but it was custom. I just noticed this and I’m not sure if this is common on vehicles but I thought this is cool.

I've never noticed that before. I went out to check mine, and sure enough those are there. Seems awkward to use to close the door, though. I agree with some others that it seems more like a structural thing.

I always just use the black vinyl covering to shut the door and not leave fingerprints/scratch the paint.

Took a snowflake to figure this out? All the years of slamming doors, I never wore out a door... Blah!

Harry, thanks for pointing this out. I had never noticed those grooves inside the doors, and I don't think I will start using them to shut the door now that I do know about them. I don't like to touch the exterior of the truck with my hands, and so I usually just elbow the door shut before brushing the (Lariat) locking strip on the door handle, front or rear, with the backside of my hand. As for the video, thanks for sharing it, but I find it hard to accept the idea that there are "correct" and "proper" ways to open and shut truck doors. To each his own! I have never heard of anybody blowing up his truck doors by using them "incorrectly"!

I guess I just don't understand everyone's aversion to touching the door when closing it. Just another thing that seems so prevalent with so many, but one I've never even considered.

As for the indents in the door frame. I would agree that they are probably for structural reasons.

My SWAG is the dimples are to attach the door side impact intrusion beam.

Speaking from experience regarding the proper way to shut open/close a truck door, once My F-150 driver door was blown out of my hands by wind gust so severe that it hyper extended the hinge past it's normal stopping point. It actually left an indent in the door edge where it was forced into the hinge. From that day forward, the door almost opened at a 90 degree angle. You can see it i the pic.

For those of you, like me, saying WTH ? If they knew how to spell it would have been more obvious.

Seems like a waste of time to me when there's a door handle right there.
