But you still won't answer anybody's questions. You know it's perfectly normal and okay to be wrong and acknowledge that so I don't understand your mindset at all. I see this personality type often generally in administrative positions at people's jobs but I still don't understand it.
what questions? you haven't asked one. all. you have done is said "I disagree" and then spout a line of crap that I disagree with. we are not going to agree on it so I chose to let it go.

edited to add: in reality you two are applying a strict legal definition of price gouging something that is illegal.

I am applying a more liberal definition of price gouging. i.e. dealers who charge an ADM on vehicles that are in demand are gouging their customers who chose to allow themselves to be convinced that what they want is worth much more than it really is.

I posted the definition of gouging ADMs fit that definition whether you want to admit it or not. so I will not beat this dead horse further

That is quite literally factually incorrect both myself and another poster asked you a question. And by quite literally I mean a question mark is posed at the end of the sentence in question. So you are either willfully ignoring the question or you don't like the start of the response you're receiving and don't read the entire message.

So I'm generally opposed to hand holding on these kind of things but I will repeat my question now and I'll leave it to the other poster if they want to try again.

Just so we're clear the following sentence is my question;

If I is a private seller chose to list my 2019 Ranger with 17,000 miles on the odometer for $80,000 am I a price gouger or do I just have a terrible sense of what my truck is worth?
I added a fair amount to that post. frankly I thought that was more rhetorical rather than serious. I figured you knew what the obvious difference between you as a private seller and a dealer is. apparently I was mistaken.

Ask and you shall receive.

Ignoring suggestions by another user to contact other dealers and my doubts. Well, I'm glad to be flat wrong in this case.

Chapter 4: " FAAFO " (Google if not familiar with the acronym)

I searched for the smallest Ford authorized dealer in a 50 mile radius. The first one came back with $20K ADM and $5k deposit. Using my verbal judo I advised them they were smoking crack in a professional manner. Next down the list and something magical happened. Well something is better than nothing, I got what I wanted, but $500 cheaper. What I really liked is I was in and out of the new dealership in 30 minutes. Yea it was a 30 minute ride there and back, but who cares at this point.

And thus...

Shelter Green bone stock no add-ons.

I even made sure that they got the proper priority code in for stock order, not retail.
Hey, so did you have to put anything down or how does that work?

So basically it's up to the dealership. A dealer bulletin went out that Ranger raptors cannot be price locked at the time of order due to the market and things like component shortages etc etc

In some cases dealers are not taking deposit but in my case it was a $500 deposit so no big deal.

When your Raptor gets a build date I believe is when they can price lock it. Right now the only orders Ford is going to fill our stock orders since there's only one allocation for dealership. A stock order is as if the dealership is ordering it for their own inventory versus a retail order which would be the dealership ordering on the customer's behalf. In a nutshell the way this works all the raptors for the first allocation technically are purchased by the dealer for the dealer but they simply turn around and sell it to the agreed upon price for the customer making the inquiry.

Technically the dealership could act scrupulous and not sell it to the customer when it finally comes in but that would be severely bad for the reputation not to mention in the case where they are taking a deposit you get deposit paperwork and order paperwork which is more or less a form of a contract just without a final price yet.

The basics of the Ford order priority system is 10 through 19 is a retail order and 20 and up is a stock order.

The lower the number in each category the more priority you get with the factory orders for that particular dealership.

So if the dealership I buy my Ranger from has me at a priority code 20 as seen in the paperwork but they also ordered 10 other vehicles for their inventory and they are listed as code 21 through 31 that just means Ford is going to process the order for the ranger first before the other vehicles.

The priority code system is individual for each dealership it has nothing to do with one dealership to the next

Some other purchasers on 6G are getting priority code 10 meaning their order was put in as retail and not stock and there is some worry that their order is going to sit in limbo since technically no retail orders are going to be allowed for the first 3,000 units. Some users have reported contacting for customer service to have this corrected and in some cases contacting their dealer to get it corrected

Thanks for that “final” chapter Jack.
Congrats on the truck.
man’s I love that final dig you gave the original dealership -just absolutely classic.
I did that way back when I was buying a new car in 1990. The VW guys didn’t take 20 year old me seriously and gave me some reason why I couldn’t test drive the Golf GTi. Got the Honda civic instead and came back and told them it’s was unfortunate they were jerks to me. Someone else made money instead of them.

So when the truck comes in, you come in and get the financing started? Or of course, pay cash if you can?

Yes once it's arrived and logged into the dealerships books the process is no different than if it had already been on the lot and I walked in. You can of course contact your own banking institute when you know it's on the way if you want to prearrange financing but I am personally curious what kind of rate I can get from Ford. Sadly I have to accept that the chances of me getting 0% like I have on my current Ranger through Ford is probably not going to happen on this Raptor which sucks but another price to pay to play.

On a side note my goal is having enough equity in my truck and cash even if it's just rebuilding it back to stock is to basically have enough down where my new payment is basically the same as the payment I'm making now which at my 0% and original price of roughly $35,000 is only if I recall about 400 a month.

Final price for the Raptor barring any increase from Ford is going to be a hair over $65,000 and that includes tax tag title and ADM. So my target goal is about $30, 000 between equity and cash.

What was it like 4-5 years ago you could get a gen 2 "base" raptor for like 57K

I bought a 2019 Raptor SUPERCAB totally base model with zero options from Ken Grody Ford in Buena Park, CA at the very end of December 2019 for $55k brand new.......it was MSRP......but took 4 hours to negotiate that deal.....I had a trade in and they low balled me on that......they never moved on their MSRP price......but it took 4 hours to get them up on the trade in offer to me.......we closed the deal at 11pm on a Saturday night.....I told them I wasn't leaving til we worked the deal on MY terms......

I liked the Raptor......but didn't love it......it was huge and not "urban life friendly"......and not even a real 4 door......and it sent the wrong "image" for me to my customers.....I'm a roofing contractor and the owner and salesman......my customers "might" think I was charging too much for their roof because they thought I was driving a "$75K" Raptor......(Most people think that's what Raptor cost even though it wasn't true in my case)......anyway, I traded it and bought an older Taco 2wd.....hated it cuz it was a taco.......and traded that for my 2021 Lariat Tremor.......my current truck suits my needs and "image" perfect....I paid $1k OVER MSRP back in Oct. 2021 for my current truck but don't want or need an overpriced Ranger Raptor and certainly not $5k over MSRP and probably more than that given how greedy the dealers have been the past couple years.....they have shot themselves in the foot when things settle down.....I will remind them of it in the future if need be if I need a new truck......

and NO I didn't buy my 2021 Lariat Tremor from Ken Grody Ford......F*ck them for playing hard ball back in 2019.... I wasn't giving them the time of day this time.....too much of a hassle by a greedy stealership.....I hope they go under.....they always sell everything well over MSRP.....I went to a local "smaller" and friendly dealership.......still slimy but just not as bad......I love my Lariat Tremor but the dealerships make the whole Ford experience NOT good!!

I like that you own having an image. My mentor talked to me about this. He won't get a raptor or put any lift or wheels and tires on his f250 because he doesn't want to send the wrong image to his driver's (owns a trucking company).

When I got my job 3 years ago as an engineer for a huge company I had the oldest ranger and everyone had new cars. He told me to buy a new vehicle because of my image. He said to have something reliable that will turn on everyday and be dependable and to keep it clean because others look at that.

I didn't understand at first but I see that he does a lot behind the scenes like he wrote a check and sponsored my senior design project at school for 2k to buy materials and he said not to tell any of his drivers that he sponsored it.

I think my truck suits my image as an up and coming engineer since it is fully custom and I did all of the work. It makes for a great conversation starter that builds relationships at work.

I would probably end up putting fiberglass on the ranger raptor if I get one to keep the custom image. But I won't pay over MSRP.

Why would anybody who has been paying attention to Ford vehicle ordering actually order a Ranger Raptor?

Especially if youre willing to pay ADM. Just wait till they're on the lots, if it's anything like the Bronco the lots will be full of them BEFORE most people get their ordered vehicles.

I'm thinking 3 or 4 victory laps round the front circle of the building of this dealership with the other dealerships name on a flag attached to my truck would be the ultimate ending trolling come delivery time.

I'm not in any hurry. I have my current setup to enjoy. I look at it as a random visit from Santa at some random time that will not even be Christmas. Well maybe a Santa who gave me the slight reach-around. Hey damnit, I'm not gay but $20 is $20!
