My feeling is if it isn't broke don't fix it. :sunglasses: Besides doing the regular maintenance they'll usually try and sell you something you don't need.

Digging a little deeper I found this Doc.

30,000 miles
At 30,000 miles, replace the engine air filter, rotate and inspect tires, change the oil and oil filter when indicated on the vehicle message center, or every 12 months, whichever comes first. Inspect all hoses, connections and fittings under hood. Inspect the complete exhaust system and all heat shields for damage or possible leaks. Check the automatic transmission fluid level, and the rear axle lubricant. Inspect brake pads, rotors, brake lines and hoses, along with the parking brake system. Inspect and lubricate all non-sealed steering linkage and suspension joints, half- and drive-shafts and universal joints.

I invested in an extended warranty, so would be inclined to let them do it, at least the transmission and rear axle fluid checks, so they can’t say I didn‘t do the required maintenance if I have a failure later.

I just had the trans. fluid checked and both Diffs changed by my local shop. As long as you keep your receipts they can't do anything IF something were to happen as you have proof it was done.

Does anyone else suspect the "Inspect hoses, fittings, etc" is half-assed or just not done at all by the mechanics? I feel like the new guy would do it once or twice but most would eventually just skip it and take a break instead. Nothing you can prove.

I have a hard time trusting they put full synthetic in when requesting and paying for it...

What are they supposed to do on that checkup ?
Apparently Dave can see the future, as he knew you were going to ask this question and answered in his post just a minute before you posted the question: "try and sell you something you don't need."

30,000 mile check up … Yes or No ?
I do most of the maintenance things unless I have something that needs doing and I am otherwise occupied

Having said that, I think it comes down to how you feel about the dealers service department. My last truck was GM and my closest dealer had an awesome service department. I think they told me no, everything is fine, as many times as you need this or that. Ironically, they had the worst game playing “stealership” sales department I ever ran into, I think the old man had two sons running the different departments. Genetics are a deck of cards, not two jars of sand fully mixed each time. ;)

I haven’t used any of the Ford dealers yet, but have singled one out to try first when I need one. It is about 15 more miles away, but so far they seem like the best, get the best reviews, etc. the guys I bought my truck from were 2 hrs away and were super honest and no BS, but too far for service for sure.

Just had my 30k mile oil change. Ford calls for nothing special. My dealership recommended a brake fluid flush and an chemical intake cleaning.

I passed on both but will consider the intake cleaning for next time. I'm also thinking I'll do the diff fluids as well.

Had a scheduled inspection done one time on my 1st Ranger and they suggested radiator hose replacements and I said no. Checked the hoses and they were fine. Kept an eye on them. They were still good when I traded it in at 120k! But on this same truck another time on an inspection they found that the cat needed replaced and it was covered under warranty...saved a lot of bucks!

My Dealer charges 349.95 for a 30k. Before committing, I look at each item and see if it is needed or not and also compare what each item would cost at other reputable places. The advantage of having these inspections done is that they should be able to catch anything needed on warranty then your covered without missing it.
