Imagine going to fill up your tank and instead the gas station takes fuel out because it decides they need it more. California!

The concept, known as “vehicle-to-grid” charging, involves sending power from an EV’s battery back to the grid while the car is parked and plugged in. This technology is still in its early stages and faces significant costs, hindering widespread adoption. However, EVs could play a crucial role in ensuring grid stability during periods of high energy demand and solar power shortages.

It's a lot cheaper to buy solar panels and meter back to the grid. I would call that a vampire load on batteries with no regeration that would reduce battery life.

Just another reason to avoid visiting the country of California !!!
Next they will probably be setting up monitoring stations at all roads leading into Ca to see if you have enough fuel as they most likely won't sell any of theirs's to out of country visitors.

I can see a real opportunity for a product that works kind of like a one way valve where you plug your EV in, but only lets the power flow one way...

I think they will sell like hot cakes in CA.
Sounds like the EV version of the diesel egr delete, with similar crackdown of course.

With it maybe an EV could roll up to other EVs and steal their charge too. The new gas tank and/or catalytic converter thief.

I heard someone say that if Gavin sees people with extra money, he will find a way to take it. I don’t know if that’s true but it could be the same thing with electrons. You have too much in your battery, so they’re coming for your electrons.

just to be clear - if you’re listening Gavin I don’t believe this, I just heard someone say it somewhere.

Imagine leaving your car to charge while at work or overnight at home, then it's at 20% when you get ready to leave for a 100 mile trip? I guess the best thing to do is charge until full, then disconnect from the grid.

California is run by some big money diodes that keep the money running in one direction. Sad part is in southern NY it's getting to be the same. Luckily I live in a small town.

I say free electric and EVs for everyone then use them as grid storage as you want. I bet this slogan would get me elected

That actually is against the law. You can only use an EV for a max of 90 days for temporary power of a home according to codes. I guess some were doing that and using free charge stations at supermarkets and dealerships to have free power.

I live in San Diego. I am an engineer, and my next door neighbor (also an engineer) had three brand new Dodge mini van’s (hybrids) out front of his house before COVid so I wandered over to ask. A month later told me the technologies standards had been approved by all the governmental and private groups on the two way flow of electricity.
The original goal was for the hybrids to be able to do this. I fully understand a hybrid mini van, but a full electric, never in my mind. The standard was for the hybrid would plug in and turn it’s engine on as needed and then later charge the batteries off the “grids excess”, at some time. The car market seems to have shifted to total electric, but the standard is in place, so that is good. The fact that the FEDERAL government made a standard for plug in’s that did not accept the Tesla standard, THEN all the companies have signed agreements to use it. . . .
