What it’s purpose is venting the crankcase gasses and separates the oil and water it carry’s so it doesn’t get back to the intake airflow as designed. Over time that builds up on the back of intake valves and degrades air flow.

It’s also a good way to separate you from your money.

People believe that installing one will extend the longevity of the engine, but, from a day-to-day perspective you would not notice a difference running one or not running one. Only the fact you have to empty it.

I have the UPR dual valve can, it’s not cheap and it’s very effective in catching contaminants etc from both sides of the PCV system. A regular person doing regular things is not going to benefit from having one, you’re talking about potentially prolonging the life of the cat and decreasing the need to clean the valves at the expense and inconvenience of buying/installing/maintaining the can.
On my truck I prefer to have one because it helps ensure that what burns in my combustion chambers is just fuel and air, thus reducing the potential for knocking. Also through warmer months it doesn’t catch more than maybe 2-3 ounces of thick oil but in the cooler months it catches like 6-8 ounces of fuel/water/oil slurry almost every 400 miles! That is enough for me. I’m happy to have it.
The cheaper ones tend to do very little btw, especially the ones that only hook to the valve cover and inlet side.

Just a small sample of what mine has captured.

you do dishonor to a bottle of very fine bourbon, but what's going on with the price of it, I was shopping liquor recently and it was > $90 . Even worse is Don Julio 1942 @ $172. The price increases are concerning and a clear sign the fed's policies are falling short.

The anti smoking people say increasing prices decreases consumption. They are equally bad for you...

the rye was even more, maybe over $100 . Ended up with a bottle of Woodford, it was on sale. For Tequila settled for a bottle of Gran Coramino, not expecting it to be anything near Don Julio and later found out the the comedian Kevin Hart co-owns the brand, so joke will be on me.
