they look hokey.

The only time I had one of those units was on one of my past F150's.
If it had straps, I never used them.

Are they just required so the extender doesn't bounce up and down? Does it ever bounce? I never noticed my F150 move ever.

I used the bed extender from my Tacoma but like Steve said the knobs looks smaller than the ones you have. They clip right in easily and have never had any problems with it and I use mine all the time caring ladders for work. If there's nothing else in the packaging try calling the company and see if they can send you a smaller set.

Thanks....This sorta validates my hypothesis that I need different/smaller knobs. I'll ping the MFG. Pretty sure this is the issue. Thanks for the pic!

I have this unit, but the two secure straps won't latch into my tailgate. The round things simply won't connect with the latch no matter what I do. Supposed to push on them and the gate latch will secure them. Any suggestions?

Hi Ranger_22,

I have the Ford (by AMD) and no problem....the straps just click right in.... Did you try to operate the tailgate handle while inserting? That might work....

Best,
Phil

I have the Ford branded bed extender, I think AMP Research makes it. It has always worked well, no problem with the tailgate catches. From your pics, it looks like the tailgate catch piece is the incorrect one. Here are some pics and measurements from mine. Dave's pics look close to mine...

I suggest you contact Lund and get the correct catch pieces.

I have only used it to secure things in the bed because you could lock it. I almost never use the straps. Did once so far.

Yep, tried activating the tailgate handle manually while attempting. I think the plastic insert is too big, for another vehicle. I bet when they send me a smaller pair, it'll work. I can see the differences in circumfrance in the above pictures.

Yep., I have the amp one and yours clearly are different. I need them to send me those. They must have sent it without looking at the vehicles it's used for. I'm certain those will solve it. Thanks for the pics!

They really aren't needed but since they come with it, I figured I would just use them.
