I had a Leer on my last Ranger and really liked it! To save money, I'm playing with the idea of the Vanish instead of a shell even though I liked the additional height for carrying loads. The Leer had a fold down option in it to hang clothes from which was a great convenient accessory when traveling. I was just looking at the Ranger and its looks like there are several clamps over the rear doors doors to attach a clothes bar if I get a Tonneau instead? Do you still like and recommend the Vanish? Does it leak? Easy to remove? Any downsides?

I have a Vanish, I generally like it for the price. I got it for $287. I’ve had issues where the clamps shake off after some high speed off roading, I just make sure to re-torque them now and again but I do wish I didn’t have to at all and the clamps were more secure.

no soft tonneau will be totally leak proof but I would say it does not let much water in. I’ve driven it in rainstorms and there’s some water ingress near the front of the bed but just a few water trails, not worrying to me.

Shells are not generally leak proof either so leaking does not sound like a serious issue with the tonneau. Do you think it would be feasible to switch out the clamps for better ones? Is it reasonably thief proof?

Can you post a couple of pics of the inside and latches? I have one of those swing away gear boxes and I'm concerned it would interfere with the operation of the back latches.

Thanks!
I asked this question about my gator soft cover that uses similar latches. Someone posted that he had a gator and it worked with the swing boxes. You just have to swing out the box, latch the cover, then swing the box back in. I haven't bought the swing box, but plan to.

What I figured. Wouldn't work with the swing away boxes.
Thanks!
I haven't verified it, but someone told me the gator works and it uses similar latches.

The gap in the front where the front bed side is lower than the sides is a recurring theme. Who makes a cover tailor fit to our trucks? I dont want to have layers on layers of sealing strip foam across the there. Read thru several threads and see many mentions of the gap, and accommodations to correct it. Who has come out with a cover that fills the gap some other way?
My gator has a large seal at the bulkhead the seals pretty well. You put one seal on the bulkhead, and then the cover it self has a seal that mates with the bulkhead seal. I haven't noticed any leaking yet.

Paul, mine has help up very well especially in this heat here. I do hit it with the 303 Aerospace Protectant ever couple months. They do supply you with a rubber block that goes where the bed and bulkhead meet because of the height difference. We don't get much rain here but even when power washing mine I get little to no water coming through.

As far as the clamps coming loose I has this issue when I first got mine. They would fall off every couple weeks from just rolling the cover up. They sent me a new set and the key is placing the rubber shims in the right direction. There's a thick and thin side which now I cant remember which goes towards the outside but you could call them and ask if you end up getting it. Since doing that mine have never fallen off even when going off road and it's been over a year now. It's a great cover for the price.

Thanks Dave. As you know we have a very similar climate here except for 10-15 degrees cooler. Rain is scarce. The heat of the Sun in a desert area can do a lot damage. Will let you know if I decide to go with it :)
