What was the process like in terms of working with your dealer? Just tell them you think this TSB is applicable and let them figure it out? How long did they have your truck?
I made an appointment for an oil change, when I dropped it off I told them to install this part and to call me when it’s done. They had it for one day, as I previously bought the part and brought it in. They charged me like 200$ or whatever an hour of labor was, can’t remember but not significant.

Has anyone tried to reinstall an old DFPE sensor that was malfunctioning but has now "dried out"? Is the malfunction permanent or will these things start working again once they are allowed to thoroughly dry out, if in fact moisture is the cause for the failure?
I just did this this week and I had mixed results. It seemed slightly improved for a few days then back to the bucking.

So has anyone figured out the root cause for these filling up with moisture yet?

From my non scientific perspective, when the DPFE failed my mpg dropped, I thought it was winter gas so I ignored it. However my egr tube did not get hot. Apparently it picked up a bunch of crud recently. After replacing it the egr tube started to burn it off. MPGs back up and egr works.

oh and it runs smooth too. Honestly thought winter gas caused some rougher running, and freezing temps caused the trans to be ever so slightly less smooth. All is good now. Definitely on the annual rock auto list now.

The egr tube gets plugged up??? Was it possible to just clean the tube??

I believe the faulty sensor was not allowing the egr valve to open as required or opening at the wrong times. Either way it was not at hot as it should be. I had a coating of grime on mine, presumably from spilled oil from an oil change. It started to burn off after dfpe replacement.

I'm just trying to understand why some guys still have an issue after the sensor replacement. Can the tube still hold water after the sensor replacement and if yes, I saw someone mention to start the vehicle without the sensor attached to remove the rest of the moisture??

The little hoses going to the sensor can become clogged. They sell just a sensor and sensor with new hoses. Local dealer only had the sensor, so I removed my hoses and made sure they were clear. Other issues could be with egr valve or cooler.

Yeah no shit. But where is the design flaw that is causing the repeat failures?
The sensor takes in acidic exhaust gases and is made of plastic. Heat cycling causes moisture, which is probably fine, but some moisture could be from the egr cooler, and there is seal degradation from the exhaust. It’s basically a wear item.

New cars are appliances, and those are disposable.

So if theres condensation/water in the hoses/sensor there could still be condensation in the egr pipe and after a short time gets into the sensor again, is my thinkng correct??

Possibly but a good working egr system will get hot enough to eliminate it. This sensor going bad could cause the system to work less efficiently this leading to more moisture and damage
