It’s this stuff. I found it at Home Depot. It’s always trying to expand to fill gaps so even when it’s squished, it still slowly wants to return to its max extension. It also feels like and matches the bedliner. I need to see if I can find different sizes though and/or get some more, just haven’t had time yet and probably won’t for a while lol.

I didnt even know expanding sealing tape was a thing, may have to give it a try on my crawlspace entrance.

Buy more.

This truck will handle as many as you can buy…

Have you tried or have you succeeded with mounting any of the cases to the existing threaded holes in the bed side?

There areounting brackets for molle panels, but the panels themselves run ~500 bucks...

Hey John,

I thought about that but I never know from day-to-day which tools or what building materials will be riding along back there. My rear seat delete also keeps the most-used items handy and quite accessible.

The Builtright Molle Panels are pretty cool but $$$$. ?

I also have the added issue of a drop in bed liner, which would have to be removed to mount anything. I also worry about dynamic load because of the size of the tool cases. They would likely have to be flat against the wall of the bed, limiting the number I could mount - likely only four

Finding a mounting spot back there for these would be nice….

Both are light enough to simply rely on Velcro but a lockable, quick-release mount would be ideal.

Understand.

I was thinking one or two of the skinny briefcase looking cases, I have 1 I use for kitchen stuff so it has a pocket rocket stove, some fuel, a small kettle, some dry food and utensils. And a first aid kit by the tailgate...

Those built rights were where I got the idea to mount the boxes. So I went down the rabbit hole and saw they sell brackets to mount them for ~50 bucks. I would just need to fabricate how they connect to the bed. In my mind the bolts to the bed would just be to hold the box in place, it would sit on the bed floor to minimize stress on the bed sides....

Or I could go total Overland dork and mount them to the outside of my bedrack. LOL

It would be great to have those grab ‘n’ go cases fastened into the bed but there’s nothing wrong with the hillbilly overland look either…

Hello all,

Just thought I’d share part one of my Ranger build.

Got a Line-x spray in done

Installed a Retrax One XR

And cut a 2x8 to fit as a divider, then coated it in rustoleum truck bed coating spray to make it match nicely with the bed. (And also to make sure I don’t use it for something in a pinch lol)

Next will be Yakima bed rack and roof rack. (Once the wallet recovers ?)

Progress!

I'm considering the RetraxPro XR cover. Do the rails sit flat on the bed rails? I've seen a thread that talks about slight gapping above the bed rail.

There is a slight gap towards the tailgate, but it seems like once weighed down, it will sit flat. I had mine installed at the place I bought it through so I didn’t get any hands on experience with it. However it seems solid and the other options they had all seemed a lot less robust in build quality. Roll’nLock, gatortrax etc

Also there may be less gap on the retraxpro vs the retraxone that I have since it’s sturdier aluminum slats and therefore a bit heavier.
