If it goes or starts acting up I'll probably just trade it in on a ranger raptor. I'm half tempted to now since its paid off and my trade in offer is a bit more than I paid for it
My guess is with the current market, your trade in value will cover half the cost of a Ranger Raptor, especially with ADM's of $5K-10K I hear dealers are adding to it. And who knows what problems the Raptor will have with the 3.0 and trans. It's why I won't buy first year models.

I thought about it but I do use the 6 foot bed alot so it'll not benefit me. Plus I'm thinking about at least dash swapping my ranger possibly a front clip swap if it's doable but that's a project for after the restomod bronco project

I'm a sucker for punishment, I'll keep the truck. Maybe go for the extended thing? So far in the last 40yrs I never bought extended, never had issue within warranty, always way after, past expiration date.
Truck is stock with only 45k miles, 45 more to go.....
I have a few months left to decide on extended warranty but supper expensive up here in Canada, 3.5k$ or something like that.

The longer you wait, the more costly the ESP will be.

I think there is some suggestion that those using Sport Mode are seeing less failure or at least postponed failure, but I can't figure how to quantify that or justify it.
Mine has been in sport mode for about the last 2500 miles , and it will stay there from now on , no clunky shifts up or down ...as soon as i try D or even Tow , horrible downshifts , mpg went from 19.9 to 19.7 ...

Won’t the new raptor use the same transmission we currently have?

I'm hoping Ford goes all in with hydrostatic drive.
My John Deere has been operating flawlessly for over 30 years with an early model design.

Where is the OP? Did the dealer determine that the transmission needs to be rebuilt/replaced?
I’m still alive. Just got off the phone with the service manager at the dealership. 6k for a rebuild up to 7.5k for a new transmission. He advised me that since there’s an TSB for the transmission to call corporate and explain the situation. Told me to be very nice and sometimes they help out.
Called immediately and got a very nice lady on the line in less than 2 minutes. She said because it was out of warranty I was SOL (but more polite). I explained that I am a loyal customer blah blah blah (all in the nicest most respectful way possible) and that my work is tied to my vehicle blah blah blah. Anyways I requested to escalate the issue to a supervisor and she immediately got one one the line. The supervisor explained that after looking at my history and loyalty they will be able to offer financial assistance. They weren’t able to give me a number yet, but they were going to call the service manager to discuss the details about the work that’s needed and get back to me.
so hopefully they can help me out with some of the cost. I was surprised with the minimal amount of hold time and how nice they were. If anyone is ever in this situation be respectful.
I’ll keep everyone posted as things develop.

Interesting. So just to check, even though there was a TSB, that didn't actually influence anything? If so, that's unexpected.

I guess no one was able to determine the exact point of failure i.e. the CDF drum. 7.5K would get you a Suncoast built transmission.

Good luck with getting Ford to help out. Did they offer any idea as to what failed in the transmission?

I want to know where they're getting that $7000 number from.

IDK if there is new programming that has to go into a new out-of-the-box trans, I'd assume there is, but for a $3000 difference, I'd buy the trans and bolt it in myself and tow it to the dealer to program. The 4wd trans is actually $50 cheaper than the 2wd version below.

Ohh and the 10R60 is going to be a step down from ours. It is lighter/cheaper and will handle less torque. Will that make a difference? Is it built better? No idea at this point. It has already been in the Bronco and Explorer and has had a few teething problems with its coolant circuit, but that's all I've heard about it.
