Do these pry off ? I don’t see any screws or anything else that is holding them in place ...

I want to eventually add a tonneau cover and not sure how the cover would “seat” properly on the rails with these on

Or am I wrong ?

if you look under the rails you will see exactly how they are attached. they pry right off.

I was thinking about making some oak or teak rails to replace them and the tread on running boards.

as for the cover, I can't answer that

Tell us the truth, you just want to get under there to clean.

Hi Dave,

My Bak revolver X4 guides clamp onto the box pinch weld flange and fit over the box top covers. I do not recommend removing the covers. There is no reason to do so to install a tonneau cover for any covers as I can recall on these forums.... Not going to help you but probably will cause non fitment.... My vote...leave well enough alone

+1 to what Phil said. Not my truck, but here’s an example...credit goes to @24dRanger

My Gator tonneau cover fit with no issues on top of the rail caps. In fact I used the molded in lines on the caps to center my cover.

My Truxedo ProX15 probably would not fit with the bedcaps removed. Plus when you remove them you expose a ton of holes and an uneven surface.

So I used a Yakima bed rack system to carry my mtn bikes for about 7 months before getting a hitch carrier and now my caps are loose and rattle at various times while driving and it is getting fairly annoying. I tried to pry my bed rails off to install some 3M double sided foam tape or something similar under there (not sure what will work best yet not having seen under the caps) between the cap and rail itself to hopefully stop the vibes but there are about a billion clips holding these things on. Two rows of clips. I got all the ones I could reach from inside the bed compressed and pressed up but there is a second row of clips that I can't access to push up and out of the rail. They are between the bed skin and the inside of the bed. How do you go about getting those off? Have any of you actually removed these rails or are you just saying they pry right off? I broke one of the outside tabs on the drivers side and just ordered replacement rails for both sides as I assume I am going to break the tabs removing them and will install the new ones with some sort of insulation. Any ideas?

Or out of some composite material would be nice also.

I live in the salt belt and I'm removing my plastic rails and tailgate rail and getting them sprayed with line-x. They hold salt and moisture badly, not to mention, simply rub the paint away from friction over time and inviting rust even more quickly. My 2007 ranger's box rails disintegrated because I procrastinated removing them.
Anywhere plastic meets metal is an invitation for rust.
