Yes, just awful. No one has any fun in that weather either........
That's why God created the Sierras, to be able to play in the snow. Snow is an hour away in the winter and it never snows here at home. :like:

Arly, I was raised 35 miles south of Miami. I could count on my hands the number of times I saw my breath in my 20 years there. We broke out the coats when temps dipped into the 60's. Didn't even have a heater in the house.

And we don't have AC in our home.

I've been to my inlaws home in upstate NY (between Syracuse and Watertown) in the summer. It is hot and humid, and the black flies are almost as bad as the Everglades mosquitoes! It may not be hot as long but it is just as miserable. They don't have AC either!

I've been to the UP of Michigan in the summer years ago - Kincheloe AFB (closed in 1977) and Sault Ste Marie. Nearly froze my nads off that "summer". Never mind the black bear waving us on the base 100' from the gate!

To be fair, the late 70's had some extremely cold winters all across the country. People were talking about the coming ice age! (not kidding)

You should get one.

"Nordic" models work perfectly fine as low cost heater until temps drop down -25'C or -30'C (depending on the vendor and model) after which the COP goes to around 1:1 (practically electric heater). If you take an air-water model, you get warm water also.

With the electricity prices in Finland (~0.04€/kWh back then) our unit paid itself in less than a year in reduced electricity costs.

And it's nice for those days when the sun decides to shine for 24hrs a day for a week.

Here are some pics taken on the south shore or very near, the greatest of the lakes. The boat "thee sons" is owned by the family we buy our fish from. The shove ice was over 20ft high that winter.
