since this thread has folks that enjoy catching nice pictures, i have a question. if you wanted to buy a new or used camera to take better than pictures and spend 150 or less what would you get?
i know that 150 is very low lol. but i gotta be cheap the 5g uses up all my money. at the moment i have a couple of akaso action cams that are ok. go pro knock offs. an old 10 mp sanyo or samsung digital camera and the phone camera. what i want is a bit more detailed photos, more zoom, crisp colors. i do not need wifi and gps and all the other techno gadgets.
Since you asked I will give my humble opinion. This is based on NO facts, data or scientific comparisons. Just my observations and impressions. You didn't say exactly what phone you use, but if it is an upper end fairly new smartphone you already are carrying a camera that takes better pictures than your camera budget allows. Multiply it by 10 then you can start comparing.

I say this because for normal every day pictures some times it is hard to tell between ones taken by my phone and ones taken by my camera that costs about double that of my phone. Newer phones can do some pretty amazing things. They can not do some of the special settings and have changeable lenses and such, but to out do them, you need a big budget.

I agree with this. A phone will never get good depth of field. Specifically, compression (where the background looks closer to the subject). You can do a lot with a phone though, and I would start there. I'm $4000 in to my setup. And that's on the low side of cameras/lenses. Its a hobby that I have invested in, but its just a hobby. That's why I spent $1600 on my 70-200 (f4) instead of getting the 70-200 (f2.8) for $2800.

yep. this all day long. budget for a good camera starter kit is 12-1500.00 Personally I am a Nikon guy .. but you really can't go wrong with Nikon or Canon. buy a kit that includes a couple of lenses. take lots of pics. decide if you like the hobby or not before spending a dime more money on it. Photography can be much like owning a truck the bug will hit and hit hard and next thing you know you are into it 3K or more just in lenses.
