Purchased a new 2026 ranger from the start it would run down the battery in a day and a half. Dealership has had it for over a month. They think the problem is a negative battery cable. Anyone else had this problem

No matter the vehicle- for that kind of issue-either a charging issue (including) the cables or you have a module that is not going to sleep and draining the battery.
It’s just a matter of testing the system and possibly a parasitic draw test.
should not take a month to figure out its not that complicated of a system.

Seriously a month in the shop for a new truck is totally unacceptable and would qualify for lemon law. Most dealers would quickly exchange it to keep from the legal hassle of the lemon process. I'd just go ask the manager at the dealership if he wanted to exchange it or have you start the lemon law process.
But I'm not a patient person when they collect thousands of $$$ and give me a pile of garbage.

Good info, shouldn't the dealer that's had it for a month know this???
I don't know what years it applies to, may not apply to 2026. The dealer should search all SSMs and TSBs for that issue. The OP could ask his dealer to search. I didn't see a lot of info on it, but it was mentioned by someone on the 6G forum. That is why I suggest the OP search and ask over there.

That was Recall 26C10 that affected 24-26 Rangers and was fixed with an OTA update.
But yeah, dealer should check those and other TSBs for issues.

Recall 26C10 (paired with NHTSA Campaign 26V104) addresses a fault in the Integrated Trailer Module (ITRM) or Trailer Module (TRM). The module may lose communication at vehicle start‑up, disabling:

  • Trailer brake lights
  • Trailer turn signals
  • Electronic trailer brakes

My understanding is that the loss of communication with the TRM module also caused it not to go to sleep, thus causing a battery drain. Thanks for the added info.
